I have the older style chi where the light is turned on by a lever. Unfortunately the lever was missing when I bought it used and unlike the guy assured me the lever is not replaceable. I would need to replace the whole filter/light or leave the light on all the time. Yeah can we say algae...

If the hornwort has just been introduced recently the melt could be caused by the new water parameters. The old may die off and be replaced by new growth. My crypts have done that even in established tanks when I have something different to the tank. I've heard crypts may not like excel either...

Reading through like you said metricide 14 says no surfactants but 28 and 30 plus does. Part of my recollection is this has been discussed and it's in the activator but it would be great to have confirmation. That being said I've dosed my tanks two days in a row without any problems. Cheers, Ray

According to Seachem's recommended dose it 5ml per 10gal (what you're dosing) for first dose after major WC and then 5ml per 50gal everyday after which. Since it's going into a tank with vals I'm think I should start slow and follow excels recommended dose. Don't want lose my vals Cheers, Ray
