Fin rot and planaria in tank..?

Some more information that might be helpful... I did a gravel vacuum last Friday when I did a 50% water change I have had the guppies ranging from 3 weeks to maybe 2 months.. I got different ones at different times. I recently added new Java moss to my tanks (I split it up between the tanks...

Fin rot and planaria in tank..?

I have my guppies in a 15 gallon tank, started out with 2 males and 8 females. One of the males died last weekend and I thought it was because his fins got stuck in a piece of decor because that's where he was when I found him.. he died shorty after. The females have been dying one by one...

What kind of plant is this?

Did some more researching online and I think it may be Northern Water Milfoil. Not really your typical aquarium plant but it looks cool. lol

What kind of plant is this?

I've been researching and it might be hornwort but I'm not sure. I found it in a pond and thought it looked pretty. Does anyone have any experience with this plant in aquariums? Is it appropriate for an aquarium or is it just a weed?

    Plant lighting advice

I'm sure the subject of plant lighting gets beaten to death, but I want to add more lighting to my 55 gallon aquarium. I currently have two T8 15w 18" florescent bulbs in my tank hoods and an external plant lamp (clamp type) with a 65w bulb directed at one side of my aquarium. Is this enough...

    aquarium lighting basics

They are fluroscent bulbs (18" tubes).. just wanted to be more specific so you would know what to look for. Walmart or any hardware store should carry them. You can get away with lower watts if you don't have a deep tank. The higher the watts the brighter the bulb, and the better lit your...

    aquarium lighting basics

I went to lowe's and purchased two T8 15w bulbs for my hoods that are the same size as yours except I have to have 2 for my 55 gallon. I am adding more external lighting for my plants but the 15w bulbs were all lowe's had to fit my hoods.

    Help stocking 55 gallon..

So my 55 gallon tank is now empty and fully cycled. I rehomed my goldfish and the remaining few are outside in a large tank. I currently have 4-5 stems of anacharis elodea in my tank, and tons of moneywort I recently planted (not in a huge cluster, I spread each stem out with 3-4 inches in...

    Aquaclear vs Fluval

The Aquaclears are a Fluval product.. just bought two 70's for my 55 gallon and believe it or not my tank water has never been clearer and my ammonia and nitrites are measuring at 0 ppm for the first time since.. ever! Love them!! Best filters I've ever owned hands down!

    Filterless 110 goldfish stock tank

I just want to keep the fish alive temporarily until I can get an actual pond built. I measure ammonia and nitrites regularly and they continue to measure 0ppm. Nitrates are at 5ppm or less. They seem to really enjoy the space. I will do water changes when the parameters start to get out of...

Small outdoor stock tank pond without filtration?

Hydrilla grows like scary fast and I don't think even goldfish could even make a dent in its growth. They haven't even bothered to touch the two stems of anacharis I am letting free float in the tank. I have no intention of dropping a ton of money on a pond filter but wouldn't mind getting one...

    Filterless 110 goldfish stock tank

Is it possible to filter and oxygenate a 110 Rubbermaid stock tank that has 3 medium comet goldfish with plants alone and no filter? I am trying to grow anacharis elodea in there (recently added a few stems and soon will add some hydrilla from a local pond we fish. My eventual goal is a...

    Filter help..

Mollys are beautiful too! I'm kinda obsessed with the whole concept of the livebearers right now! I think watching them birth live young would be awesome to watch!

    Filter help..

I wouldn't do goldfish.. they are messy and filthy creatures. They are more for ponds than aquariums. Trust me, I'm learning this the hard way now. I would go for guppys or tetras! They are beautiful and cheap! As far as filters go, I second the Aquaclear 70! Just ordered two for my 55...

    Cloudy water

Could be residue or dust from the new substrate. If you didn't rinse super SUPER well then you will get cloudy water for a day or so. Just give your filter time and it should clear up soon enough. Even if you did rinse well, odds are new substrate still murks up a tank a little.
