Thank you one and all for the good wishes. I don't think there is time for a second opinion, but it won't stop me from trying. Chemo and radiation treatments start Oct 1, 08. I already feels like fluid is starting to build beneath my stomach helping to cut off air. I've also come down with...

    Water conditioner bad for cycle?

Use AmQuel+ as the water conditioner. You'll never have a problem. You still will see an ammonia level but its locked up. Plants will use and get rid of the excess ammonia. Cycle w/fish time is no longer than fishless cycle: 3 - 6 weeks for a normal sized aquarium.

someone explain undergravel filters to me

My UGF system: 150 gallon tank housing adult fancy guppies (app 300-500 at any one time) Other inhabitants are a small colony of Red Cherry Shrimp, 3 Ghost Shrimp and 12 Neon Tetras (3 are more than 8 yrs old). Approx 200+ low/medium light plants of all types. Gravel is 3/16" standard natural...

What's eating holes in my lily pads?

You don't live close by to the Amazon do you :) ? Amazonian leaf cutter ants would cut holes something like that... but I haven't heard of anything in the US that does it that's waterborne.

    Rock from the river.

Make sure the wood is not swamp black hemlock. Poisonous sap.

    everyone with 6ft tanks

I agree about not using a lightly loaded trailer. Mine was loaded to the hilt and had enough weight on the springs to keep them in the "working zone".. ie: a little softer... but not much. Couldn't use the truck bed. The 8 ft slide in camper was in it for the 2.5 day trip.

    everyone with 6ft tanks

Don't put the canapoy on the top of the tank. One thing loosens up, one bump the wrong way and the canopy goes crashing through the bottom. Another thing to do... load the tank just barely forward of the axle. Less motion, esoecially iif you use a trailer. I drove from VT to MT to TX with a...

    everyone with 6ft tanks

Borrow plenty of thick blankets for the tank to rest on. Bubblewrap tends to pop if jostled around wrong.

fish okay for now but infusaria or parasites?

There should have been no need to tear that tank down. All that was needed was the filter cleaned.

Is this tacky or not permitted?

I've always netted my own fish in any LFS. Also show them the trick of doing it without damage too.

    "Live sand" in FW tanks.

You can use "live sand" in a freshwater aquarium but it has to be LIVE SAND from a FRESHWATER pond or lake. The organisms are completely different from the ones found in SW. Also the introduction of fw parasites and snails can be a problem if not QT'ed first. I've done it before using sand (top...

Possible planarian worms in cherry red shrimp tank...

Hydra can have tentacles longer than 8". They can and will eat shrimplet and adults. I have seen them catch and eat full sized pregnant female guppies before. Don't use salt in your shrimp tank. They may not like it.

    oh no....blue water

Methylene blue was about the only medication there was in the early '70's. It will stain everything it touches (exept fish because of the slime coat). Activated charcoal and PWC's will help get rid of it.
