    Whisker Shrimp

I have not noticed, that the claws are a blue tint. I thought, that the main difference was longer rostrum length on Indian species (as German name for this species "Langnasengarnele" mean "longnose shrimp"), but hard to see on photos. They have done well - feed them Hikari crustacean pellets...

Loach lovers, show me your loaches!

For something different, one of my unidentified Schistura sp. loaches. Look like S. mahnerti or one of several similar species from Assam and SE Asia. I have 3 of them in my hillstream tank, where they have each established own territory. Mostly rest on rocks and snatch food from powerhead current.

    Whisker Shrimp

I have no small fish in the aquarium - smallest are some type of stone loaches and rosy barbs. The species, that I have (which ever it is?) seem not strong or aggressive enough to catch most fish - so confusion with other Macrobrachium species? The shrimp eat almost anything, including young...

    Whisker Shrimp

Acquired some "whisker shrimp" (Macrobrachium sp.) recently. I am not sure, if they are the Indian species (M. lamarrei) or the Burmese (M. lanchesteri), as both are similar? Indian ones have supposedly longer rostrum, but hard to tell in photos.

    Powerhead Noise Problem

I have 2 Aquaclear 70 powerheads as part of a river manifold setup in my aquarium. I chose this brand, because they had reputation for quality and had longer life according to reviews. They run only since July and were very quiet at first. Now (in last week) one has become louder and there is...

    My 55g Himalayan River Biotope

here is update, but no new photos, because still work on it. After ich outbreak of danios under control, finally could add more fish. Decided to not add yoyo loaches, because tank too small, after I read to keep them in 5+ groups. Current stock list: 6x Giant Danios 5x Rosy Barbs 3x Zipper...

    Possible case of ich?

Here is update on my fish, in case could help someone with similar problem: the white spots came back on the 2 fish and definitely ich, so put in heater in (not use it as my fish like cooler water, but came free with tank) and raised temp. to about 30-31C over 2 days. Then add aquarium salt...

    Possible case of ich?

It appear, that any flecks are now gone, whatever it was. That not seem characteristic for ich though. Any recommended actions? I will observe for awhile, not sure, that I want to add salt if nothing wrong. Would like to add more fish eventually, but not sure how long I should wait, if nothing...

    Possible case of ich?

Well, I look for confirmation about fish disease, not a lecture about water changes. But to that subject (for last time): I have read many books and websites/forums and see people advocate everything from 10% water changes once a week (obvious novices and old books) to 50% twice a week (very...

    Possible case of ich?

50% seems a lot of water every week for 55 gallon at over 20-25 gallons! The standard recommended water change is about 20-25% from most sources, so that is what I do weekly (1/4 of water hardly a "small" waterchange). Also with my old tank without problems. Might do 50% occasionally, but not...

    Possible case of ich?

I have 4 Giant Danios in my 55 gallon river tank at moment for about a week as initial stocking and to observe that everything ok (plan to add more fish slowly). I noticed several days ago, that 2 had small whitish/gold flecks appear on the edges of several fins (possibly one on body) - no more...

    My 55g Himalayan River Biotope

The backround is not so great and need to be replaced, but not like the look of black for this aquarium. What you mean? If that fish all occur in same river/habitat in nature, then yes. Most of the plants also, but it may not be quite as barren as in nature (because I like some...

    My 55g Himalayan River Biotope

Currently set up a 55 gallon biotope of a Himalayan river. It is based on the Tista River in the Himalayan foothills, not the more violent currents, that are found higher in the mountains. Wanted to do something different with an unheated tank and the Himalayan fascinate me. Probably one of the...

    Help with Used Eheim 2217

Surprised that no one knows about this. :( After I look at it again, I think that I will need double valves, spraybar plug, small elbow and suction cups (but not larger elbow). Look like piece of the wider tubing to connect spraybar and narrower tubing, so hope that it hold.
