    Balls of algae?

Do you mean while the decor is in the tank? It doesn't dissipate in the water too quickly?

    Balls of algae?

Thank you so much, everyone, for your replies and advice! I took out my decor and did a peroxide dip on them and did a partial water change to get as much of the free-floating algae out of the tank as I could. I will buy some Excel tonight to have on hand if this stuff takes over again. I'm...

    Balls of algae?

Oh, dear, black beard algae it is! Looks like it is caused by phosphates from overfeeding? I am overfeeding some, to keep the bacteria alive with just my single betta in the tank. I guess I'd better stop that!

    Balls of algae?

Can anyone help me I.D. this kind of algae, and tell me what causes it and how to get rid of it? It is a brownish/green color, like a really dark khaki, and mostly grows in fuzzy balls on my decor. My water parameters seem to be normal: ammonia = 0 ppm nitrite = 0 ppm nitrate = 10 ppm pH = 7.5...

    Fancy plant mats

My eye was caught in Petsmart by the fancy plant mats that line the bottom of your tank. Does anyone have these? Are they easy to clean and vacuum the gunk up during regular water changes like gravel is?

    Can/do corydoras chew on fins?

I appreciate the replies! I'll give some cories a try when my tank is clear of ich and see how it goes. WhiteDevil, I had some problems with plants cutting my betta's fins, too. My brother learned a trick online and now I swear by it, too: take a pair of pantyhose and run it along the plants...

    Can/do corydoras chew on fins?

After a disastrous experience with kuhli loaches in my betta tank, I'm nervous about adding even the seemingly gentle cories to my tank. My betta, Patches, has a habit of sleeping on the bottom of the tank. While he was napping, I caught the (well-fed) kuhli loaches in the act of sucking on and...

    Kuhli questions and concerns

I got my kuhli's from Petland in Lethbridge. The Petland in Medicine Hat just started a tank for them (they're awaiting their fish order) and now they have my 3.

    Mixing bottom dwellers?

I can handle "patrolling" of the neighborhood. Just as long as there's no police brutality going on; Patches' fins are mangled enough.

    Kuhli questions and concerns

HIKARI it is then! And I've never seen a worm feeder like that before. What exactly is it for? To keep the food in one spot and make feeding easier? I had a kuhli disaster! My betta, Patches, sleeps on the bottom of the tank rather than at the surface for some reason. Yesterday, I noticed he...

    Mixing bottom dwellers?

Nice pics, WhiteDevil! Thanks for sharing! Love your sand, and it looks like you have some of the same plants as me -the tall ones in the back and the hairgrass. Cute kuhli's! Does anyone know if cories will chew on my betta's fins? Patches (my betta) sleeps on the floor of the tank rather...

    Kuhli questions and concerns

I definately have frozen bloodworms on my shopping list; I imagine they'll go nuts over it, and so will my betta! I'm still pondering the tankmates dilemma. I'm definately going to get some cory cats (first I'll want to switch over to sand for the kuhli's and cories) and I know they'll get...

    Mixing bottom dwellers?

LOL I guess you don't see much activity from a banjo -or see anything of it, period!- but I sure thought the one I saw was mighty interesting, and I think I may just have to buy him. ;)

    Kuhli questions and concerns

My little guys went nuts over the freeze-dried bloodworms today, but a lot of them are still floating and haven't sunk to the bottom. My biggest kuhli was up at the top of the tank feeding from the surface just a few minutes ago! They come out of hiding every morning when I feed my betta and...
