how beautiful, LaWoWee! i found the same panels, daney... are they the same as you have, LaWoWee? i just can't afford them, right now :( my tank is probably bout a week from end-of-cycle & looks like i'll be starting with a fowlr if that's all the BeamsWorks-54-1watts will support... is that...
okay, hmmm... does anyone care to suggest... should i ditch the BeamsWork (described in my original post) or look into supplemental lighting and if so, recommend what & where to get added lighting?
Thanks, Mrc! Finally! a straight answer :) but are you saying that even the 3 watt LEDs are only enough for very-low-light corals? and/so is my fixture good for anything... fo? fowlf?
while waiting on my tank to cycle, was wandering if my 48" "BeamsWork Reef Bright LED" was going to be enough to host some soft corals & inverts. i can't get a straight answer, anywhere :banghead:
here's the description:
Fixture Size: 48.00" x 5.00" x 1.00" (Add 0.65" in height with bracket...
yeah, Lindsay... i think i'll go ahead and buy a few lbs. i'm still not sure if it will survive the cycling process, so i hate to buy much. if anybody can kill a rock, it would be me :)
Thanks, again... just ordered a hanna checker for phosphates. had a feeling those readings i was getting were bogus. some other tests, i'll put on my wish list :)
thanks for the great info, Mrc! i've got an api reef master test kit (calcium, carb hardness, phosphates & nitrates) and strips for testing ammonia... that's all they carry at the nearest lfs. is that good enough or do i need to order something different online? what do you recommend? can't...
that's what i was thinking, but all i have quick access to is the rock that has the coralline algae already growing on it. it will die-off during the cycling process, won't it? just not sure if that's good or bad.
i'm just now waiting on my tank to start cycling. i've only got 1 "so-called" live rock, right now, and it doesn't look like it has anything "live" on it... there's some flaky stuff on it, which i suppose is ok and likely what i want, right? it's been in the tank for 3 days. i've...
Thanks, guys, for the replies... probably not the first or last mistake I'll make as I learn lots new everyday :) I've removed the filter & won't run the skimmer until the tank has cycled.
I'm in the process of establishing a reef aquarium in a 55 gallon tank that is not drilled. I bought the tank, a Marineland Tidepool2 sump & a Pro-Series 300 protein skimmer (among LOTS of other things) from s LFS, dirt-cheap, just before they went out of business. My plan was to start off...
