Babyblue- I know what it is like to watch things turn bad quickly. But it is also important to analyze what has gone wrong and work to avoid it in the future. I think that you have the right attitude, and patience to succeed. Good luck!

I agree that even the rock is cool. I have been watching neat little things emerge from the LR - button polyps, tiny snails, sea stars, serpent stars, a feather duster and a couple of bristle worms (arghh!). If you can enjoy even these small developments the time will pass quickly until...
Thanks, Larry. I checked out that link and then did some more searching. I now think he is a mithrodia bradleyi - "bradley starfish". I am still trying to find out what he eats. Turns out stars vary widely - some just eat algae, others eat "meaty foods". I hope this one doesn't eat coral or my...
I picked this guy up from the LFS. They didn't have a name for him but called him a "knobby star". He is supposed to be from Hawaii. I tried to show the detail of the knobs. He is rosy pink.
Can you tell me what he is? Also what does he eat? So far he must be eating algae as he hasn't helped...
I tested today (day 4 after adding fish) and the ammonia is bet 0 and 0.1. The algae (green, like grass) is really taking over.
What level of ammonia should I be concerned with?
Should I worry about the algae?
How long should I wait before adding another fish. My LFS is keeping a flame angel...
Well patience paid off! The tank is finally ready. Ammonia and nitrite are both zero. Nitrates are <5. I did a 25% PWC.
I picked up a pair of true percs and a cleaner shrimp today. Everyone seems to be exploring the tank.
How often should I test the water?
Hey Frankie,
I saw some great pieces of LR at the store today. They are very purple with some red. There was even some coral attached - mushroom and something that looks like sea squirts. So I have re-scaped my tank a bit (inspired by your photos). I got a pleasant surprise when I found three...
First off - that is fantastic video! So clear.
She looks pretty good, actually. Maybe looking for a place to settle in. Try the pipe idea. She doesn't seem to be having trouble swimming but may be irritated by the parasite. Did she have white patches and they have now cleared up? If so, that is...
Tank - Actually I really liked the damsels and had several on my "list" until I was warned about the aggression. The electric blue, yellow tail, black and white are really lovely specimens. If the other fish are the same size or smaller there may be less trouble.
Your aquascaping is cool! How...
Tank - my tank is not finished cycling yet but I am going to add a pair of clowns when it is ready. I have universally been warned about the damsels being territorial (and hard to catch if you need to pull them out) - so I am going to pass on them.
Have you planned out the other species you want...
Thanks for letting me keep my question on this thread, Tank. I thought it would be helpful for the future and also I can prove that I actually read what has been said before.
"Half-way there" sounds a lot better than about 3 weeks to go! A "half-full" rather than "half-empty" perspective, to be...
My 70g tank is on day 19. The NH3 is 0. The NO2 is between .8 and 1.6 and the NO3 is 20 - 50. These levels have not changed in over 1 week. The LFS guy says I should not have NO2 and NO3 at the same time. Is this accurate? Should I do a PWC or wait longer?
I have 80 lbs of base rock and one...
