I have to goldfish, about one incheafh and i have a 10 gallon tank, just until I get a bigger one, but anyway, I have this water filter and it seems to be scary to my goldfish, it kinda drags them into it and I'm worried that they don't feel comfortable with it. Should I turn it off?

I just got this goldfish and he is acting extremely depressed, not moving at all and barely eating. I looked it up and here it said sometimes goldfish will get lonely, I want to get a second fish, but I don't want the 2 fish to hate each other, would it be safe to get another fish.
