Mine has only done this with dead and ill (weak/almost dead) fish. Otherwise in the small tank he just chased them around like a little jerk but like I said now that he’s got space he mainly keeps to himself. But yeah he does his job but doesn’t like a lot of company.
Thanks for the tips! The lights are on for 7-8 hours a day and there is no sunlight directly reaching the tank, but I’ll try blacking it out after the next clean/change and see if that helps and stock up on some floating plants. The 1-2 punch treatment looks intense but may be what is necessary...
I have a CAE (Chinese algae eater) in with my goldfish and he cleans like a champ, but they are VERY territorial, so you need to have a big tank. Mine is now 50gallons and he mainly keeps to himself but before I had him in a 5 gallon and he was super aggressive. Other options are aquatic snails...
For a couple months I’ve had issues with black brush algae and cyano, and it’s growing rampant and thickly all over the tank no matter how thoroughly I clean it. Green algae is also growing quicker, but the BB algae is out of control. The last two times I cleaned the tank I pressure washed the...
Long story short, I just got back from vacation, left very specific instructions for the fish sitter and somehow he still messed up, really bad. I had the manual feeder on for once daily and we found out he has been feeding them three times a day. I told him not to touch anything anymore and...
My friend's fancy goldfish has recently developed a white lump on top of his body in front of his top fin that seems to be rapidly growing. His behavior has otherwise not changed. It has just appeared over the past week. I have never had this with any of my fish before so couldn't give him...
I have a goldfish tank that I keep around 21 C but in the wintertime sometimes it's gotten down to 16.5. I have a Chinese algae eater and holy moly he keeps the tank spotless!! And he is super hardy and has outlived all of my goldfish for years. He is also adorable. However, one big downside is...
I just came back from vacation for two weeks yesterday, and before I left I set up my goldfish aquarium with an automatic feeder and automated timed light switch. The feeder was supposed to feed them once every 24 hours and the light was timed to stay on from 12pm-8pm. Even though the automatic...
I have a 180L aquarium with (now) 5 goldfish, a CAE, and two snails. I have hardly been home the past week because of work, but everyone seemed fine the little time that I did see them. However on Thursday morning before leaving for work I noticed one of them was stuck vertically upside-down...
Thanks for the info! Hopefully I won't need it for future reference, but now I know...I use the antibiotic ESHA3000, I've used it for both bacterial and parasitic infections for them for years and it usually works wonders (given that it is actually a bacterial or parasitic infection, which...
I personally wouldn't recommend using a syringe needle unless you're an animal health professional cuz it'd be difficult to tell if you're aiming in the right area (I don't even know if that's an option, never heard about it till now). It happens often that some of my goldfish (two of them in...
Yeah we bought her about two years ago so she was older than the rest, all of which are behaving and looking normally. It was weird because for ten months I've had her and the one other female in a separate tank because the males were aggressively breeding and I had just returned them to the big...
Unforunately she passed away yesterday...? I put in a bit of the salt along with low dose of antibiotics and she seemed ok, swelling was going down a little, but yesterday morning she was laying on the ground. I put her back in the big tank and I changed 80% of the water in the QT cuz I thought...
I've noticed one of my goldfish has early signs of dropsy so I've transferred her to the QT. I couldn't find Epsom salt so I got natural sea salt recommended for bathing similarly to Epsom. Before I put it in though I want to make sure that it is ok and won't be harmful? The QT is about 6.5...
