First Post, new tank, lets GO!

I had a huge problem with snails after I started my tank, nothing works like having a natural enemy :-) Have a clown loach (tiger loach), it looks fantastic and it will clean your tank of snails, just remember to remove the empty shells because the loach only sucks the snail from the shell.

    Explanation

Can anyone explain this to me: Yesterday: Every thing is fine and dandy, no sign of any disease or strange behavior in my 60l tank (punch of Mollies, one catfish, one pleco, one clown loach). I figured out it is time to change the filter medium...I do Today: My alpha male sail fin Molly...

    Snail Prevention (New plants)

Biological treatment is your solution I had the same problem, when I started my tank I found one snail on one of the plants, I said to myself "OK, no big deal, it is just another form of life, no harm!", it seemed I was mistaken because a month later my tank was heavily infested with snails...

    Mollies starnge behavior

Update... OK since the temperature rising was really stressing my Mollies out and lowering the temperature gradually made them back to their activities and they started to act normal except the female with the spots (complete loss of appetite and speed breathing) and another female with clipped...

    Black worms

OK apart from the tiny microscopic white worms I had in the water few days after setting up the tank, which I was advised here that they are not harmful and they can form a good snack for my Mollies but now strangely there are black/dark gray worms, they are like 3-5 mm in length and 0.2-0.3 mm...

    Mollies starnge behavior

Moment of truth! OK this sounded like a great idea to test the test kit, I have tried the source water and the readings as follow: Nitrate 10 - 25 mg/l Nitrite 0 mg/l I have no idea why Germans put Nitrogen Oxides in the water, no wonder my Nitrate levels are not going down with water change...

    Mollies starnge behavior

Sera aqua-test kit, it is liquid bottles not strips. I cannot lower the water line because I have an filter inbound heater and the water should not get below certain level, I have added already another air stone and another pump, the capacity of the two pumps should be suffecient for 160L tank...

    Mollies starnge behavior

No they are swimming normally except they look tired but not near the surface and the mouth is moving all the time in rapid movements! The parameters are: pH 7 kH 7 Ammonium (NH4) 2 - 5 mg/l Ammonia (NH3) deduced from the table using the pH and Ammonium 0.03 mg/l Nitrite (NO2) 5 mg/l...

    Mollies starnge behavior

Well I read on a website about another parasite called Velvet (Oodinium) and it looks like ich except the spots are yellow or gray and it has a distinction that the fish has speed gills movement, I think that's our bastard  I will try hard to decrease the Nitrate and the Nitrite so I...

    Mollies starnge behavior

No, I am using the temperature trick to kill the parasites since my tank is already cycling and I don't want to overload it with extra chemicals :-?

    Mollies starnge behavior

Not at all and that's what's funny about it because she was not doing the flashing before and its appetite was OK. I noticed that the two other females are breathing fast but I guess it is because of the parasites in their gills, they seem like when you are trying to drink after you just got...

    Mollies starnge behavior

Morning bad news! OK I know you all might be sleeping right now because we live in different sides of the world but I thought to break it out for you anyway. Did a 50% pwc yesterday, minding the water temperature, added the AquaSafe and also NitrateMinus, this morning I found a female Molly...

    Mollies starnge behavior

Well some of the guys/gals here told me to be careful with the water change because the tank is not cycle yet and this can hinder the cycle, my values for nitrate and nitrite were zeros one week ago.

    Mollies starnge behavior

Update... Ich/Ick guess was right, two days ago the sail fin Molly female started to have the white spots over the forehead, I was already raising the temperature gradually since you all agreed that the tank was not cycled so I didn't want to add any chemicals on...now with the temperature...

    Mollies starnge behavior

Ok after 50% pwc and adding pH/KH minus the values are: Ammonia 5-10 mg/l pH 7 KH 10 I also added a Bactozym (Tetra product) to the filter media. The loss of appetite is not as bad as before but still not eating as they used to, the crazy scratching behavior nearly disappeared for the moment...
