    inline heater 5 gallon

While obviously overkill for a 5g, in theory it should work and won't run very often. The only thing I would be concerned about and can't find any information on it, would be any type of minimum flow rate. For example, I run a ETH 300 on my Fluval 406 in my 75g.

General questions about owning a tank

1 - When your tests have shown detectable ammonia, then nitrites and now nitrates. You can speed this up or skip completely by seeding your filter with media from an established tank. 5 - for the most part a stable pH is better than one you constantly are tweaking and trying to get just right...

    Plant and Light question 220g

I'm assuming you don't have two 220g tanks so I'd suggest sticking with your other two threads' ideas and get fake plants. I had 6 tapajos and they were mini bulldozers. You'll eventually get to the point I got to and use fishing line to tie the fake plants to the eggcrate under my sand. Every...

I can’t properly see my tank during heavy vacuuming

Got a Harbor Freight around you? https://www.harborfreight.com/five-led-magnetic-head-lamp-61528.html I have tons of these all over the place (jeep, garage, toolbox, basement, etc) and they come in handy. Every once in a while they will even be free with coupon.

    CAD Google Sketch Up

I haven't used it for an actual tank design but I've used it in the past for making stand plans. The nice thing is there is an extension out there that will give you a list of measurements for your lumber. It is a quick way to turn your design into a bill of materials and blueprint. I don't...

    Angelfish, mollies, guppies, and bettas

Two angels in a 30g (even long version) would be too much when grown. They will also eat your guppies once they are mature. I had an angel in a 30 long and it was way too cramped. It feasted on my guppies, neons, and any other smaller bodied fish. You may luck out and not have such a hungry...

    Fish dying no reasoning

Hey Sid, thanks for clarifying! You still have quite a few fish for a 70 litre, even with the angel being small. You said you cycled your tank for 5-6 weeks. How did you cycle it? Did you ever have ammonia or nitrite readings?

Feeding bloodworms with a floating cone?

I always thawed mine in a dixie cup and used toothpick to put them in the tank. That way you can just throw everything away when you're done. Once I got bigger fish and more catfish, as mentioned, the problem with excess went away! :)

    Fish dying no reasoning

Hey there, A couple questions that will help us get you better advice... What size tank are you running? 13 Angelfish is a lot. What are you using to test your water? You should have some detectable amounts of nitrates, especially with the stock you have. Do the guppies that died have any...

    Large tank upstairs

I would have no worries with a 55g anywhere in your house. You can go much larger if you place it against a load bearing wall, span as many joists as you can (as mentioned before), and place it on a well designed wooden stand. Do you have an unfinished basement? Second story joists typically...

    Freshwater to cichlid tank tips

What size tank you got? Any specific cichlids you're interested in? In my experience cichlids are pretty tough on plants. Mine were constantly floating due to being uprooted. Rock and wood is usually a common theme in cichlid tanks for a reason! :) Don't mix lakes, that would be my suggestion...

    Canister vs HOB Filter

I doubt your ammonia source is your well water, imo. Ammonia is rarely found in well water. The nitrates on the other hand is understandable. My municipal water has 10-20ppm nitrate so those levels are not extreme by any means. You're treating with prime so I wouldn't be too concerned about the...

    Cleaning "Play Sand"

A pillow case is your friend. Dump a third of a bag or so into the pillow case, use a garden hose to run water over the sand. Stir occasionally and stop when the water runs clear out the bottom if the pillow case. I did 100lbs of home depot play sand in my 75g this way and worked great. When...

    Sparkling Gourami "Croaking"?

Gourami's are labyrinth fish meaning that they gulp air and can use the air to breathe. Most likely what you are hearing is him/her sucking in air at the top of the tank, could sound like a croak though. I'm at work so couldn't watch the video. I had a dwarf years ago that would constantly make...
