I should start out by saying that I have been super busy with work and as a result my tanks have suffered a little. I used to have a description of the tanks and fish I have, but since it has changed I guess I will quickly break them down for you.

I was a bit worried about the poison use around the tank, but I don't use an air pump and I only put it behind on the carpet. Hopefully the fish will be ok.
Just as an update, I am STILL struggling with algae in my planted. I am about ready to rip everything out and start over. Anyway, at lights on this morning (I have an external ballast thingy under my tank) I noticed some ants on a newly added diy co2 bottle. Well considering there is sugar water...
This may be overkill, but to get things going, after I put everything in the bottle I let it sit in a warm bath in my sink for a while. I started this diy business when it was still cold. My house is warm enough now I think I can probably skip this step.
If you are willing to experiment, those aponogeton bulbs you can buy at walmart do pretty well with low light and they send up loooong shoots with leaves. I have grown these with less than 1 wpg.

I put 2 tbl spoons of the grants in 250ml of really warm water. I shook it up for a few seconds and it dissolved pretty quickly. I dosed 1ml with a water change. My AP kit did not register any nitrate...
