Well it's velvet. **** this is the second time in the last month I had to deal with this. All the fish are flashing and most have gold dust on their body now. This sucks.

55 gallon tank. 3 tiger barbs and a German ram are in there with him.

My red tailed shark has his fins clamped and is flashing quite a bit. His top fin is a bit roughed up but I assume that's from the flashing. There's about .5 ppm of ammonia in the tank right now. All of the other fish are fine and there's no sign of ich or velvet on any of them. Why is it only...

He's currently in my 55 gallon as he is very small and gets pushed around too much by the current in my 90 gallon. When he gets bigger I'm gonna move him either to the 90 or 125 depending on what I have stocked in those tanks by the time he is big enough.

Well I've been watching the little guy for a while now and he's been leaving the sponge filter alone and is chilling down by the gravel looking for food mostly. He seems really healthy but the whole thing with the filter just kinda freaked me out. Maybe I just have a weird fish.

Thanks for the the very in depth response. Just one question, when you say treated tap water do you mean tap water with some dechlorinator in it or tap with with something else entirely?
