- I have a 29-gallon tank that I set up in July 2010 with one 7-inch comet goldfish. It has an Aqueon power filter with bio-holster and replaceable carbon/floss cartridge. The substrate is about 1/2" of small (<1/4"), smooth pebbles. I have two types of live plants, elodea (one rooted in a container, one floating), and one anubis. "Jasper" the goldfish (gender?) lived outside in a small water garden for about 5 years. After one too many near-death experiences (herons, dogs, heat waves, and one day he leapt out onto land and survived after being stranded for an unknown period), I moved him to an indoor tank.
