    My Bushy Nose Mystery

My wife has been calling the llevo, "housekeepers". I guess the goldfish are the housekeepers. I just hope they cleaned up an already dead llevo. Hope they didnt kill them. But at least the mystery is solved. This is the tank.

    My Bushy Nose Mystery

I have a 50 gallon aquarium with a lot of goldfish. A couple fish are 6". Most are in the 2 1/2" range. The tank also has/had two Bushy Nose Pleco. The largest one was 5". The smaller one about 3". This tank has been problem free since set up over 6 months ago. No fish have died. But this...

Everything right-fish die, everything wrong-all ok

Temp: consistent 77.4 throughout tank It would seem that nitrates could be the problem but it is strange that i had 25% loss right after changing water. And I do make water changes. Hard to imagine nutrates could be increasing to dangerous levels with only 11 fish in 30 gal with frequent water...

Everything right-fish die, everything wrong-all ok

I'm 100% sure the fish deaths have nothing to do with Ph. I added baking soda when I inotially set the tank up. I have added nothing since thst time. The ONLY change from a week ago was about 15% water change. I did dechlorinate the water. Perhaps that is what killed them. I added the...

Everything right-fish die, everything wrong-all ok

I don't know that nitrate is high. I will test tonight. I did test nitrite, and it's low. And my TDS is only a little higher than I started with. It was 37 out of tap and I added a bit of baking soda and it rose to 142. I started at 142 and now it's 150ish. I got one of those TDS meters and...

Everything right-fish die, everything wrong-all ok

Sorry, it's 47-50ish. Test kit is about two weeks from store. I was surprised too with zero. I knd of expected dangerously high. I did about 30% water change anyway.. I'll check it again To be clear, the goldfish are fine. The ones that died are in the one I maintain properly. Readings are...

Everything right-fish die, everything wrong-all ok

Very frustrating. I have a 50 gal goldfish tank that has over 60 fish, including 3 pleco and 1 guppie 3 filters and very little maintenance. It's over crowded but fish do fine. Its been up for over 3 months and not a single goldfish has died. I did an amonia test yesterday and is down in the...

    Surprise Visitor

I was watching one of my tanks from my couch and noticed one of the fish chasing a small yellow critter across the tank. The yellow spec turned out to be red, yellow and black, Platty fry, best I can tell. It was much larger than I would have expected. Had exact colors as one in the tank...

Electronic Gadgets - Ph Meter, TDS Meter

I just measured my tap water. It's ph=7.7, TDS=35, fresh out of tap. Do you think I could benefit with an RO system, with TDS already low? Do you use one of the under the sink ones or a dedicated one for aquarium use only? I dont mind investing in one if there is benefit. My big problem is...

I did a 40% water change and the TDS dropped to 460 ppm (970us/cm)

Electronic Gadgets - Ph Meter, TDS Meter

Good info. That is my next tank to work on. I just changed the filters and plan to do a 40% water change tonight. That tank has 3 charcoal filters and a sponge filter. But is has about 50 goldfish and a single guppie. Oh and three Bushy Nose Pleco. Yeah over crouded. Had no choice in that...

Electronic Gadgets - Ph Meter, TDS Meter

Water is city water. 7.6ish Ph out of faucet. KH is very low out of faucet (1 drop turns blue, 2nd drop turns yellow). Havent used meters after water change but chemical tests for PH are similar to PH meter test. I know it's high ph, soft water. Just trying to reconcile the TDS numbers. I...

Electronic Gadgets - Ph Meter, TDS Meter

Still working on my tanks. Just got 2 additional toys to help me keep track of things. Don't like the strips and chemical color tests are kind of messy. ;) So, I picked up a Ph meter and a TDS Meter (TDS, EC, Temp). My first impression of these are they are very consistent numbers. I...

    Chemistry fix?

Well maybe not thousands but I will be adding another 30 gal. One is going to be high ph hard water and the other will be low ph, soft water. That would then be two 47 gal, two 30 gal, one 10 gal. Goldfish are going to be rotated out. No plans for guppy fry. Wife just likes the babies ;) And...
