Yes your probably right because there's about 7 really big healthy looking females and the ones with the speared tales are slightly smaller, I've took them to the aquarium shop to be re homed I'm not breeding anymore, I've done once that's enough for me

the tales on the fish go to a point, out of 32 fry 10 have died in the last 5 day the very small ones could they be deformed does this happen?

There actually very cheap to buy online and I use mine all the time, so I never forget to turn the lights on at the right time, I also have an automatic feeder it just makes life easier when you 4 children 2 dogs a tortoise and two tanks lol
