    My 75G Cichlids.....

Very nice! What are you using for substrate? I'm looking for something like that.

What to put in my tank?

Thanks. By the way, I'd love to have loads of fish in there but I also don't want to overstock or create any breeding pairs that will kill everything. :)

What to put in my tank?

Hey folks, after dismantling my saltwater tank for a move I'm getting ready to start it up again as a cichlid tank. It's a 46 gallon bowfront. I'm planning on black substrate (if I can find it), rocks, driftwood and fake plants. I have my heart set on at least one Jack Dempsey. Other than that...

    Im giving up...

FWIW, I posted a thread almost identical to this about a year ago. I was sooo ready to give up. As a last resort I took all my live rock out and scrubbed the rocks in a bucket filled with tank water with a brand new toilet scrub brush. I also purchased two urchins. I have not had any hair...

I just lost a Koran Angel this way on Sunday. Found him stuck to the intake of a maxijet. :(

    cleaning ROCK!

I had a massive hair algae outbreak a few months back. I ended up taking out all my LR and scrubbing it in 5 gallon buckets full of SW with a NEW toilet scrubber. Worked great and I haven't had a problem since. (knock on wood) Sorry about the late reply but I haven't been here in a while...

    Current USA Satellite 36inch

I have the older fixture that came with three moonlights. I forget the name of the company, but they sold the business to whoever makes them now. I've had it for like a year. I already replaced the fan once and just recently the replacement fan started making godawful noise too. Now...

    Camden NJ aquarium

I too grew up in NJ and now live in Maryland. The Baltimore aquarium blows away the Camden aquarium, no question. We just went last weekend. I would have to say my favorite is The Monterey Bay aquarium in CA. That place is awesome. And it's also where they filmed the whale scenes in Star Trek...

    Remove Hitchhicker Urchins??? Pics

I bought two urchins to help with a massive hair algae problem. I scrubbed the rocks clean, and added the two urchins and my tank has been very clean since then (about a month). However, my LR is slowly losing the coraline. It's ok by me, I prefer plain looking LR over a hair algae farm anyday.

    Banded coral shrimp questions

When I got my CBS he was in a tank with a ton of Camel back shrimp. He was on a rock fending them all of, like Bruce Lee surrounded by bad guys.

    Fluval 404

I have a 304 on my 46 gallon. I took out all the pads, and I use it for carbon and flow only. I also have two powerheads and I have about 60 lbs of LR for filtration. One thing to watch out for, occasionally the rubber gasket doesn't seal properly and can leak even with the clamps locked down...

Best way to get rid of hair alga?

Yes, I should mention that scrubbing my rocks was a last resort. I did the siphoning and water changes for months. I was at the point where it was scrub the rocks or just give up entirely. That said, scrubbing the rocks did no harm to any of my tanks inhabitants. I have no corals.

Best way to get rid of hair alga?

I just did the rock cleaning thing and my tank looks great now. I took all rocks (about 65lbs) out of the tank and scrubbed them in buckets filled with tank water. I would not recommend a toothbrush. I purchased a new toilet scrubber and used that, and it worked wonderfully. A toothbrush...

    I'm at the end...Cyano

I used Red Slime Remover. The first time I used it, the cyano came back. I dosed again a couple months later and it hasn't come back since. (knock on wood). It's been maybe 5 months since I did that. Unfortunately, the cyano went away and the hair algae took over.
