Yeah the SS prefilters is the way to go. I have them on all my tanks. My bf's friend makes them and sells them so if you guys need any let me know. Identical method and material. Anyways a shrimp tank huh? You need IAL and Cholla Wood (The Planted Tank Forum) ;)

Where it egg sits is hard to judge but as long as they look clean, she fans them often and no weird mold growing on it, chances are they are doing just fine. As soon as you see little eyes on them then they are growing just fine :)

Ghost shrimps gets berried very easily but then once the larvae is released, its very difficult to grow them. I tried breeding them before with little success unless you have them in their own tank and a sponge filter only.

Snails are good for shrimps as long as you keep them in control :)
