    Yet another question, cannister filters.....

I agree with TomK2. Cannisters are easier to setup and maintain than most other types of filters in my opinion, and also they are much quieter, if you care about that. I have two on my 55 gal, and I am very happy with the setup. I have Eheim pro and Fluval 304.

    New 75G setup

AshleyNicole, why rainbow shark and not redtail shark? They are both equally aggressive and you can only have one in a tank. I think the rainbow sharks get bigger than redtail sharks. Is that why you recommend them instead? Just curious, since I have the redtail.

    Shy Behavior

Mine does the same thing and always hides... sometimes you get to see them in the morning when you first turn the light on. But mine has grown a lot and looks awesome (In that 2 seconds that I actually get a glimpse of him! :-)

    wet/dry set up is costly!

I replaced my wet/dry with two canisters about a couple of years ago, an Eheim pro (smaller one) and a Fluval 304 for a 55 gal. I am not sure why I kept the wet dry for so long (3 years). The canisters are much quieter than the wet/dry and much easier to maintain and clean. And the tank has done...

Need to lower pH for my snails

Peat or drift wood will help, but they will also make the water color much darker. If you don't mind that, they are probably better than adding chemicals to the water.

Fluval/AquaClear Surface Skimmer -- anyone using this?

Devilishturtles, thanks for the reply. I think even if that's all it does, it is priced well and I think I'm going to go ahead and get one.

Fluval/AquaClear Surface Skimmer -- anyone using this?

Is anyone using the Fluval or AquaClear (apparently they are the same) surface skimmer? Does it work? It connects to the outlet of the Fluval Canister filters and supposedly both removes organic film on the water's surface and helps improve oxygen exchange. But it seems too cheap to be a real...

Why/how would PH rise so fast in my tank?!

Removed all CC, and did another partial water change and so far things look to be more stable and the fish seem to be happy. Thanks for everyone's advices and help. :P

Why/how would PH rise so fast in my tank?!

Greenmagi, thank you so much for your responses. I'll remove the CC today. I'm going to continue to do partial water changes as well.

Why/how would PH rise so fast in my tank?!

I measured the PH of the tap water at around 6.5, and since then the PH of the tank has increased to more than 8.5 (closer to 8.7 now). I agree, a PH of 8.5 should not kill the fish, but rapidly increasing PH can negatively affect the fish health and I am looking for a way to find-out what is...

Why/how would PH rise so fast in my tank?!

The current PH is in excess of 8.5. I have not checked the PH of the tap water after letting it sit overnight. I did not know that the PH can increase by itself overtime. I will check that by tomorrow. I do have a few shells and even fewer crushed corals in the tank, but not nearly enough to...

Why/how would PH rise so fast in my tank?!

I have had my tank for a while (more than a year). I have been doing partial water changes with no problems. I did a fairly major clean-up and replaced around 90% of the water but made sure the water did not go through a full recycle period. However, when I measured the PH in a week, it was at...
