    Making Objects Aquarium Safe

I used acrylic paint to redo some dragons I had and sealed it with the dishwasher safe mod podge because it's meant to be submerged and it's food safe and I've never had any problems. I just waited 24 hours between coats of paint and mod podge. Sent from my 0PJA2 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

Comet goldfish - multiple different behaviors.

The gills look just fine! I haven't noticed any gill twitching, just the fins. And I haven't noticed a pattern either. It just seems to be random. And other times they seem to be fine. I don't have a kh or gh test but I guess that's something I should invest in. But I think it's parasites...

Comet goldfish - multiple different behaviors.

I moved the one with clamped fins to a hospital tank and I've been treating him with a 10 day herbal parasite treatment. He's more active but still has his fins down. The others seem to have calmed down greatly since I took out the sick fish but they still look a little twitchy. Though It might...

Comet goldfish - multiple different behaviors.

I recently tore down and RE-set up my 70gal after losing my Goby to algae treatment. So this is basically a new tank but with established filter media and an established piece of driftwood and a baby clown pleco. I asked my mom to pick up 2 comet goldfish to start the cycle and she came home...

    Dead Goby. Sick pleco.

I took my pleco to my LFS today and he was looking much better. I added aloe Vera slime coat the the hospital's last night and he was back to his normal color. What I learned is that since the Goby is a scale less fish he's sensitive to treatment just like invertebrates and essentially sustained...

    Dead Goby. Sick pleco.

My 75 gal aquarium just went through a random bloom of green algae and it wasn't getting any better. I tried changing foods and blacking out the tank for over a week and even lowering the feeding because I didn't want to use chemicals. Then I got brown algae on top of that. I had already removed...

    Can fish mourn?

Well his behavior wasn't constant. It was just at night after the lights had been out for awhile he would just dance around the tank. It didn't seem erratic or stressed to me. But I could also be overlooking something. (Which is why I'm here!) As most people who rescue fish from Walmart, we...

    Can fish mourn?

Recently I decided to donate my common pleco, Behema, to my LFS. She was 15.5 inches long and my tank is only 16 inches wide. Mind you it is a 75 gallon tank but it was becoming a bit of a task for her to turn around, and over the last month she has developed more aggressive eating behavior and...

PLEASE HELP! NO FILTER! Will my fish die?!

Just an update for anyone who helped me, I finally got the gaskets that I needed and thanks to the helpful advice about it being able to run without them I checked my o-ring and discovered it was severely stretched and had a tear so I replaced everything and my filter is now up and running! My...

    calculating home made octagon tank

Alright I have made a large mistake in my math that I decided to recheck when I started to become more and more suspicious of why my tank was so much smaller than every 150gallon tank I saw in person. So let me try to explain where I went wrong. When I put the measurements of the tank in the...

    Oil slick

There's a good chance your fish diet may be too fatty and both the food and the waste is producing too much fat (oil) in your water. A higher water movement can also improve this because it will keep the oil moving instead of rising and easier to be sorted out by your filter. I say if you don't...

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

Freshwater aquariums are so pretty when they're planted! That's what sucked me in! Just hours of videos of waving underwater meadows and tall grass forests and monstrous silly fish. Also I fell in love with my goober of a Goby Falkor who's 5 Years strong and 13" long (violet Goby) with his tiny...

    Dark substrate for bottom dwellers

I'm looking to switch from gravel to sand/soft substrate for my Goby. I don't think he's ever been able to dig in his life... but I hate the look of white/beige/tan sand in a planted FW tank, it feels so unnatural. I think it looks wonderful in SW tanks and FW tanks that aren't planted and have...

    Sick Dragon Fish/Violet Goby?

Just to add a little information in case someone stumbles upon this as I have, searching for answers. Goby's quickly dashing to the surface repeatedly to gasp for air is also a sign of ammonia poisoning. And violet Goby's are actually quite adaptable to salinity levels. They aren't nearly as...
