    planted tank inhabitants

If you do get a pair of kribs and they decide to breed (which is a very strong possibility) the tank might be too small to avoid confrontations with the other fish. Kribs get very territorial when protecting their young and since they like to take the family for strolls around the nest that...

    Lily trimming

I'm new to lilies but I got a Tiger Lotus about a month ago and it had one bulb on it with some leaves and a runner with more leaves. I didn't detach them and planted them both and they have both grown. It has been a month now so I'm thinking of trying to separate the 'runner' portion as it...

Got an algae bloom. I'm lost without the search feature

The first thing you can do to help is to cut back on the duration of your lighting. 8 hours a day would be more appropriate. Not sure which type of algae you have, can you provide more info about the stringy algae? Does it grow in thick clumps or long strands? When you remove it does it...

can't even get anachris to grow!!!

Agree with the lighting because of the general plant problems you described. But if the Flourish you are adding is Excel it is well known to melt anachris. I don't have a speck of the Egeria Densa left in my tank after dosing with Excel.

    Fishless cycling - nitrite stalling

The values can fluctuate quite a bit until the cycle is established. I think that might be why new tank syndrome takes so many people by surprise. The most obvious answer is that the bacteria populations haven't yet stabilized. It doesn't explain the nitrate changes and I doubt a couple of...

    Tank isn't cycling...

Cycling with fish isn't that dangerous as long as you stay on top of the water conditions and make water changes as necessary. With such a small tank it'll be easy to do 50%+ water changes. Changing out the water won't slow down the process as the bacteria live on the surfaces, not floating...

I just wanted to post to say hello as I only found this site a couple of weeks ago. I had a little hiccup with my signature so I also wanted to thank the admin who reinstated my account! I plan on posting some freshwater fish and plant profiles so look for me there.

I Need Help -- new tank

Don't worry about the air bubbles, you will always see those after adding water to your tank. As for the cycling, it looks like you've added fish to your tank before the tank was ready to accept them. Now you run the danger of having "new tank syndrome" and losing your fish. Since you're...
