I took my lid off last week so i could chane the lighting from t8 fluorescent to 2 kessel amazon sun leds. I notice that evaporation is about 1 L per day. I just top it up every couple days
I do a 10% water change weekly. I never have nitrates. I consider this to be therapeutic for me. It is enjoyable for me to do my weekly cleaning and maintenance. I do not know if the fish need it or not, but they don't seem to mind and i get pleasure from this amazing hobby.
I think your question is whther or not a faster flow will deliver more nitrate to the bb, and hence increase their produductivity. It is my understanding that the bb operate at rate that is not dependent on the amount of nitrogen passing their way. There is always plenty of nitrogen for them to...
Ottos are cool. I have 3. They disappeared for about 6 months. I assumed they died. About 2 weeks ago they started appearing in the early morning. They hide behind a piece of driftwood during the day, i suppose

I would you suggest you add ammonia whenever it gets to zero, but only add enough to bring it up to 2 ppm. The nitrites will catch up. When both levels drop to zero in 24 hours reliably, you are cycled
I would wait for ammonia to drop to zero. Add ammonia so that it returns to 2. Wait until it drops to zero. Repeat until ammonia and nitrites drop to zero in 24 hours. And voila you are cycled
