Based on the fact you took it off a filter at your local fish store and the looks of it from your picture, I would say 100 to 1 it is hair algae vs some kind of moss. It's not impossible to get rid of once it is in your tank. If it starts growing on its own, that is due to you aquarium...

On a 20 gallon tank your purigen should work for the better part of a year before it needs to be recharged.

I've got an 18g extra tall, same as yours, just a couple inches taller. I have 6 tiger barbs, 2 serpae tetras, 2 zebra loaches, & 7 otocinclus. They all get along together quite well. 33% water change weekly and lots of plants.

I'm not pricing based on the size of the tank. 20, 29, 55 gallon tanks are very common. A 44 pentagon, with fitted glass top, while not a custom tank, is close to. It is a rare size & shape, which can fetch a premium from people who are looking for a corner aquarium. I don't know how it stacks...

I'm going to go with 5 or so. My LFS couldn't get them in again, says its something to do wtih the supplier, so we'll see how much they are when they do finally come in. Originally he told me 99 cents each.
