    Plate coral sick question

Here is a pic of my plate coral which I have had for about 3 months. As you can see clumps of the surface tissue are coming away for no reason. The water quality is good and there does not seem to be an other problems with any of my other corals. Does anybody know what might be causing it and if...

    Plate Coral question

Last weekend I put in a new white, pink tipped, plate coral. For the first few days everything was great, but then yesterday as I walked past the tank I saw it shrivel up to almost nothing. Within an hour it was coming back to normal and then it went again. Since then it has returned to some...

    Pulse coral question

Just noticed this morning as well that one of the stems of the coral (of which there are three) has started to go brown and this brown stem is not extending. The other two stems seem fine (although not pulsing). Any ideas? Water tests show everything to be fine as expected, with no other signs...

    Pulse coral question

Unfortunately I do not have an Iodine test kit so I cannot tell what the levels are. I will go and get one, but what sort of expected levels should I be looking for?

    Pulse coral question

OK, a few answers first. I have not checked the iodine levels so I do not know if they are elevated, but having said tht I thought good levels of iodine were healthy for corals?. when I bought it from my LFS it was under VHO halides about 12 inches from them and seemd OK, it was not pulsing...

    Pulse coral question

Thanks for the help, the xenia is near the top of the tank in good flow and about 10 inches from 300 watts of halide. During the day sometimes it is able to stretch so that it nearly touches the surface. The PH is 8.1 so I am at a loss. Is it worth moving it?. Pioneer

    Pulse coral question

I put in a new pulse coral about 3 days ago and on the face of it it looks very healthy. It grows very nicely during the day (lights on), and retracts during the night. The only problem is that it does not pulse. It is near the top of the tank in relatively good flow. All water paramters are...

The worst was/is yet to come

Are you using a commercial denitrification process, like sulphur beads or deniballs? I had exactly the same problem some time ago and I found that my denitrifier had stopped working (as the nitrates were at 0), which prompted the denitrifier to turn into a hydrogen sulphide factory. Two or...

    Disaster!!

First disaster since starting up 5 months ago happened today. I came home from work and noticed a very strong hydrogen sulphide smell (rotten eggs). I thought tha this could only be my Aqua Medic Denitrifier, so while having a look at the equipment to see what the porblem was I noticed a kink in...

    Yellow Tang going Pale

I checked the Ph this morning and it was between 8.1 and 8.2, which is about normal for me. The salinty has always been between 1.025 and 1.027 (worst case), normally sitting at 1.026. The nori I use is Sally's Seaweed Salad (Marine Green Algae). It comes from a Company in CA, it does not...

    Yellow Tang going Pale

    Yellow Tang going Pale

My Yellow Tang is starting to loose his colour and go a bit pale. He is still active, alert and feeding well. He is fed Brine Shrimp, home made food, and flake on rotation. The tank also has a regualr supplier of sea weed which he munches down without a secnd thought. So no obvious reasons...
