    Saltwater Aquarium Disaster!

Last night, I performed a 10% PWC, hacked as much algae off the rock as I could, cleaned the pads in my filter, and added a bio-bag with some phosphate absorbing balls. The next order of business is to clean the skimmer and give it another go. It already looks a ton better, just need to keep...

    Saltwater Aquarium Disaster!

Thanks for all the replies so far! I haven't checked my phosphates yet, but it's definitely possible this could be a cause. I am going to do a water change, try to pull as much algae out as I can, and try to find a way to pull the phosphates out (like was recommended). Hopefully I can make some...

    Saltwater Aquarium Disaster!

I have a disaster story for my saltwater aquarium. I know a good chunk of this is my fault, and I am trying to make things right again, but am at kind of a loss. I started this tank about 2 years ago, and for over a year everything was perfect. The corraline algae was beautiful, and everybody...

    Coralline Algae on glass

That's great to hear! I am having this same "problem" in the last few weeks. All of the sudden the last few weeks it has started to grow all over the glass in my tank too, and I was kind of annoyed at first...now that I know it's a good sign, I'll deal with it! :) Paul

    parasites

This right here shows you the lack of knowledge your LFS contact has. First of all, not only is a freshwater dip a poor choice of treatment, as it will only cause SOME of the parasites to jump off, it is unbelievably stressful on the fish. Not to mention, if the ich is already free swimming in...

Light Bulb in a Petco 48" Light Strip Can I replace wit

I did the same thing...got a 30W bulb with my aquarium purchase, and thought I could get a better higher watt light for it. Unfortunately, I found that you can really only change the color spectrum, not the wattage. I found that a bluer light, for instance 50/50 actinic/daylight bulb is much...

    Skimmer for 29 gallon

I have the Coralife Super Skimmer, and it does a great job! The only drawbacks to the CSS are that it takes up more space inside the tank than most other skimmers, and it does take some time to get set up properly, the bubble diffuser box caused me quite a headache for a while. Now that it is...

Does anyone else love the smell of your skimmer's cup?

No, sorry, it makes me nauseous! I'm curious what on earth your skimmer is skimming!!! :) Paul

Calcium Formula and Adjusting Water Conditions

Hello there! I have just purchased some Kent Calcium, Iodine, and Strontium additives for my aquarium. Here are my current levels. I am curious what formulas you would use to see what your calcium levels with KH levels, etc. Also, what would I try to adjust my levels to? 46 gallon FOWLR 60...

    What the ich?

I'm not sure you understand...the main tank has NEVER had a fish in it. It is a brand new set up. Besides the live rock and the cleanup crew, there has never been anything added to this tank...where would the ich have come from in the main tank? Paul

    What the ich?

OK!!! I am BEYOND frustrated!!! I left the Coral Beauty in the copper treatment for 2 weeks. He looked much better after 1, all spots gone, but I left him in the copper treatment for 15 days. After that, I did a 33% water change, and then left him in the QT for another 14 days. The entire...

What size cleanup crew is appropriate?

Wow, that IS expensive...that wouldn't probably cost you more than $100 to $150 here in the US... You could try adding less at a time and see how they do cleaning up your tank. If they aren't cutting it, add more, etc. You will probably find over time you may even need more than that! :)...

    Florida Beaches

Well, if you want to get technical, unless you ONLY buy tank-bred fish and tank-bred corals, you are taking wildlife from its' natural habitat. The vast majority of fish we buy for our saltwater tanks were snagged from the ocean...:) Paul
