When I add new fish, I usually do it after feeding the current inhabitants and then also keep the lights low to minimize stress. I've never had a problem.

Every morning my lovely barbs and my gourami (the sole survivor from the illness my gouramis had a couple of months ago) greet me just like this. They swarm the area in the tank where I feed them. Love it!

My blue was nesting prior to the deaths of all the others. They got some weird sickness that ONLY affected my gouramis. My tiger barbs and cories were all fine.

In the big tank I have 10 tiger barbs and 4 Cory catfish. I had 7 gouramis but they all got sick and died save for one.

I never updated when this cycle was complete. I added fish after I had zero ammonia and nitrite for several days in a row. Tank is super healthy and fish are thriving.
