The 9 fish are already dead but I have a question

Ty and yes hurts the wallet hurts my emotions more as I feel I failed, I can't believe I've spent $500 on a 20 gallon tank either ouch, substrate, driftwood, light, lid plants and take off $100 for the fish so $400 technically, obviously the most expensive piece was the light at $150 but still...

The 9 fish are already dead but I have a question

Yeah I don't realize that they were ultra small either, but my gawd $100 bucks down the drain I don't think it was anything I did but I did change the substrate and add real driftwood 3 weeks prior, I did multiple water changes a week for 3 weeks before I added them.

    nasty algae

It's hair algae, you have it worse than me and I'm struggling as well so I can't be much help with eliminating it, but you really don't have much plant mass to starve the algae out which is a huge key to keeping algae at bay, I would add your tank setup in the description, tank size, water...

    Dying Betta

Melafix is horrible and doesn't work, you also have to understand fin rot, when the tips start to grow back they resemble fin rot themselves so you need to be able to tell the difference, the best thing for a betta is ultra prestine water, 0 ammonia 0 nitrite 5-10 nitrate, pH, slow gentle flow...

    Fish dying

Nitrate shouldn't be zero, it can be if the tanks heavily planted but my tanks heavily planted and I never drop below 5ppm (even dosing 20 ppm weekly) , when you say seem Okay ammonia should he absolute zero, nitrate should be zero nitrate 5-20ppm, don't confuse nitrite (ite) with nitrate (ate)...

    Ammoina Issues

Yes, cleaning doesn't matter, all new tanks will go through the cycling process UNLESS, you take everything from the other tank, filters /gravel /decor and put them in the new tank, you cannot let anything dry out in this process though, but to be on the safe side I would just seed the other...

    Ammoina Issues

The tank wasn't cycled therefor that's why you have ammonia, you can't just take fish out of an established tank and put them in a non established tank without transferring gravel and or filters that have been running in the established aquarium, you need to leave them in the established tank...

    Betta Lethargic and breathing heavy

Okay, just keep that ammonia down in your 10 gallon, if it was cycled then you shouldn't have ammonia unless somethings crashing it , the plants will help with ammonia as they use it for a food source, well water can have ammonia so I would honestly check that anyways just to be sure and check...
