Our lionfish about 3 weeks ago hurt his jaw...the left side of his face was extremely swollen making his face on that side look round...even his gills on that side was puffed up...he looked like a chipmunk with stores of food in his mouth...(unfortunately no pics ; ; )
we are still not...
i would suggest doing either a weekly or bi-weekly water changes of about 3rd of the tank...just lightly syphon your sand to pick up the extra food/poop left on the sand...
you have a lot of meat eaters...as a result they will make a lot of poop :P...i would suggest investing in a nitrate reactor since they guys can be messy eaters...
brown water...that is a new one for me...so i am not sure what kind of advice i can give...how are your nitrates and ammonia? do you use carbon filters or that new bio-crystal(it is a chemical form of carbon filter can't remember name off by hand)...when was your last clean?
my magnificent foxface will draw in a piece of mysis and will spit it back out and will continue this until she feels like eating it...you can easily tell if a fish is eating by looking at its stomach..if the stomach is expanding than he is eating and you have nothing to worry about...
