I actually think you did superb. I had a feeling that an older (senior) person might had something to do with the up keep but not at the level you discribed. I thought that maybe they, instructed maybe, someone else. I'm glad to hear that they are so involved and i'm sure the new tank may also...

When you changed the filter AND the gravel, you lost most if not all of your bacteria. Keeping the old media from the old fitler and using it in the new one would have helped. Also some of the old gravel could have been been put in a stocking that could have been kept in the tank without mixing...

Looks to me as if you will have a well thought out plan by Friday. I'd be intrested as to how it goes as i'm sure others on here would be intrested too.

Actually the smaller the tank the quicker they become room temp. A 7,10,or 15 watt would be fine imo. Also make sure the room doesn't get too warm. There again the tank will warm quicker.

On the AP nitrate test, be sure to shake bottle #2 as if shaking a can of spray paint or your kids..lol It will give false readings if not shaken well for 30 sec. before putting it in the tube and then the tube for 1 min.

I have 2 10 gal, 1 29 gal and the bow a little My 37 has a middle support and doesn't bow Even the 10' bow about 1/8" I think it's normal.

A good heater and a good thermometer! And a water test kit if you don't have one.

IMO...AquaClear 70.....I run those on my 37 and 30 and water is crystal clear.

Crush up the flake food like normal(should be really small) put it in a salt/pepper shaker. Then ask him to just shake it twice every time he feeds the other fish. Maybe that wouldn't be to hard for him.

My head/tail light tetras(6) school really good. Sometimes they even join in with the scissor tail rasboras.
