Hi,
I have 2 guppies that are at the surface of the tank gasping for air. One is a bit discoloured -yellowish on his back. Both have had what I assume to be poos hanging out of them. One has had this several times over the last week or so. Their gills look red and obvious. I've been wondering...
It's a couple of months since I started this thread and I'm still struggling. In early Feb we gave up on fishless cycling after 2 months with no progress whatsoever and got 3 male guppies. I've been testing the water then doing a 60% pwc about twice a week. Every time I test I get 0.25 ammonia...
Once my fishless cycle finishes, I'm thinking of getting the following fish:
3 male guppies
5 cardinal tetras
3 panda corys
Does that sound OK for a 15 gallon (60 litre) tank? Any comments/suggestions welcome!

The bottle definitely says ammonia on it so should be the right one.
I've now done (almost) 100% water change - I didn't try to empty the water in the bottom inch or so among the gravel. I've removed the suspect ornament, which felt really slimy. The other two ornaments are fine. I've replaced...
Tank, filter and everything else was new and I rinsed it with tapwater before setting it all up.
Temperature was 26C but I turned it up a bit this morning. Now having trouble reading what it is on the strip thermometer, I think I need to get a better thermometer.
The full story is that it took...
If the ammonia was a little above 4ppm, would that have stopped the bacteria from developing? It was definitely closer to the colour on the chart for 4 than 8 but I can't be sure if it was 4 rather than say 5? But surely just a small difference at that level wouldn't matter. I've been reading...
API test kit.
It's a hang on the back filter and the tank does have a lid. I'll take a photo and post it later on today.
Hoping you'll be able to work it out for me - I guess there's nothing obvious so far.
