New live rock - what are these things that look like unopen polyps?

they do look pretty similar. I am really hoping that they do open. I just liked the rock for its spikey appearance....these are a bonus! Would be a good start at seeding my new setup, that's for sure. Wasn't wanting to add anything too much in the "living" category until around december...

New live rock - what are these things that look like unopen polyps?

see, i was kinda thinking the same thing...but the tubes are very firm (felt like basic liverock) and under moonlights they haven't opened yet, but I do see the orange glow in the center of quite a few of them. I thought most of those type zoas were brown in color? I'm realy hoping I got...

New live rock - what are these things that look like unopen polyps?

I am starting to get my new tank started, and bought some live rock at my LFS to get my cycling started as soon as the tank is ready. I put it in my 8 gallon for now to start picking up some hitchhikers from that tank. I believe that some of the rock I got was tonga branch or marshall island...

My new setup...but not entirely familiar with sumps etc

oh....also. what is the candy cane shaped pipe for? would that be to just to hang into the tank, utilizing the other u shape, to allow more water into the overflow?

My new setup...but not entirely familiar with sumps etc

I think I worded it wrong as far as the overflow is concerned...there are two 'u'cuts at the top of the overflow, one on each side...I'm assuming one would be to run the return pipe to in the tank with the y'd off fitting for return/current...I was meaning would I mount the powehead kinda...

My new setup...but not entirely familiar with sumps etc

I'll post pics through the process...with the powerhead, I was curious as to whether to put it in the tank itself, or behind the overflow shield. I have always used open aquariums with no overflow. That is another area I am new to. Didn't know if it would be best to put it on one side behind...

New here....but not to the hobby

not really....these moons can't really sting humans unless you have thin skin haha...but either way, that is why I put a cleanup crew in. other than that, I actually used bristle worms and just general vaccuming to do most cleaning.

My new setup...but not entirely familiar with sumps etc

Here are a couple more pics.... I took pics of the models on the skimmer and sump pump.....can anyone tell me how good these ones are? I basically got the whole setup including the "live rock," which isn't so alive any more, for $60 all said and done...not a bad deal at all.

My new setup...but not entirely familiar with sumps etc

Here is the newest setup I got to start building a new reef tank. 54 gallon corner tank....looks to be a 10 gallon sump? Been years since I had one, and I never used a sump. I used canister filtration and a refugium only. My question....how do I hook this thing up once I get it all clean...

New here....but not to the hobby

Feed what? the jellies? They have a frozen food blend that you can order that is a mix of all sorts of vitamins, planktons, brine shrimp etc...but they definitely seem to do better with live mysis shrimp, live brine shrimp, fresh phytoplankton, and pods...they seem to hold onto their meals...

New here....but not to the hobby

Thanks guys....posting my first questions in another thread in a bit. But here are some pics for you. Mind you, the tank is no longer like this. It was doing well, and was starting to get some nice Coralline patches before my shrimp and crabs went bananas and started chomping away at my...

New here....but not to the hobby

Figured I would jump on board here for some refreshers. It has been a bit since I had a full saltwater setup, and may need some pointers on things I may have forgotten, or that I am altogether new to. I had a 35 gallon reef tank for 3 years while I was stationed in Germany, and couldn't take...
