    tap water filter

I agree with HooKoo, the copper getting into your water is negligible. I too had copper pipes (nearly the entire 110 year old house) and kept shrimp for my entire childhood (and the tanks are still going with the same water back home). While I can't tell you what the issue is, I'll make a bet...

Help - filter cartridges for whisper 20

Not sure... I'd leave it a few weeks, maybe a month. I leave mine until I have to rinse out the new filter which is every 2 weeks or so. I'm not the most religious about sticking to a schedule for tank cleaning.

    1 gallon tank stocking

Red cherry's, but they do need a filter.

    2 Happy Fish/2 Happy Kids

You can't add anything with a "tail" to a betta tank. People have had success with neon/cardinal tetras and cory cats (and I'm sure there are others). My betta is in a 5.5gallon with a filter and heater. What you can house with your betta also depends on the aquarium size (has to be...

    Siamese fighting fish

Trina, if you leave them they will most likely be eaten, you can net them out into a breeder (either a plastic or fabric mesh box to keep them away from the parents) ifyou want to try to keep them alive.

Do corys really NEED a school?

I have 3 peppered corys and I never see them together. They all swim around and do their own thing, rest separately etc (who knows what they are doing when I'm not watching). I only got 3 because I like them, not to be beneficial to their social needs.

Help - filter cartridges for whisper 20

The whisper 20 uses the large size. While it's very helpful to keep using the same one, eventually the material wears out and tears. Some people have to buy new. When you do use a new one though, cut your old one in half so you still have one thickness of the old filter and place it either...

    Eco bio stones

If you have room you can stuff either a new full filter at the bottom of your current filter or cut a chunk off (or just use a piece of filter pad) and stuff it at the bottom or in a side of your current filter. Then you can take that out and place it in the new filter for the 60L tank.

Powerhead to keep algae on the sand down?

Ok, I was also told by my local reef store that turning off the lights and covering the glass for a few days really helps. Any thoughts on that?

Powerhead to keep algae on the sand down?

I have a redish (purple?) slimey/scummy algae that keeps settling on my sand in my biocube 28. I don't mind removing it when I do water changes ~weekly, but is there a way to keep it from settling and end up in the filters? I already have a fluvalU3 with the bottom outlet open, but it's not...

Definitely Craigslist can be super awesome.

    Glofish died

Hah, total misread! Was wondering how someone would think 6 goldfish in a 10 gallon wasn't overstocked :)

    HOB filters

I run two filters on my tanks because I haven't found an inexpensive one that is big enough AND quiet. I added a piece of plastic tubing to get the intake on one of the filters near the bottom (and then put the intake portion at the bottom) and held the tube in place with a suction cup. Not...

    Glofish died

Whoa, even 1 goldfish in a 10 gallon is a stretch. They are very dirty fish. You want to change a bunch of the water (probably half) to get your nitrates back down. They aren't as lethal as nitrites and ammonia, but some fish are sensitive to them anyways and they will cause problems over...
