    Getting Back Into Plants

I'm aiming more for low maintenance, so maybe I should only use 1 bulb? Or should dosing flourish excel and using both bulbs in a 10k/6700k combo be ok. I'd like to avoid a Co2 setup if possible.

    Getting Back Into Plants

I haven't had a planted tank for a few years now, I feel like a noob. Here is what I have: 12g Aquapod (open top) Current USA 18" Nova Extreme T-5 Fixture 2x18W 10K/460NM A bucket of eco-complete and some awesome driftwood Back when I had planted tanks the T-5's were still relatively new, and...

Bio Cube 14 gallon / 12 gallon JBJ nano cube

Skimmers are not always necessary in a tank this size, but they can't hurt either. Frequent water changes keep things nice. It doesn't have to be that particular one(I think you are looking at the skimmer for the BC29 anyway), it just has to fit in one of the back chambers. There are plenty of...

Bio Cube 14 gallon / 12 gallon JBJ nano cube

Most books will suggest a larger tank for the beginners. This is because when things go wrong, it happens a lot slower the more water you have. Things can go south fast in a 2.5 gallon pico! I somewhat disagree with this advice though. Frequent PWC's are one of the keys to success, and are much...

    ringfinger's BC14

Yeah, there are a couple tiny shrooms in this picture. One of them disappeared overnight recently though! :(

    ringfinger's BC14

Figured I should share my one and only tank at the moment. Just added the first coral(torch) which can be seen at mid level.

Cerith Snails are small which is why I said 10. Turbos are good eaters, but much larger. Sometimes they can knock things over because of their size. Sometimes a hermit will kill a snail, but only to use it's shell. It may or may not happen, but no big deal. I have scarlet reef hermits and have...

    new biocube

Air bubbles in the BC tanks are usually caused by not having enough water in the back chambers. Try adding some more water. If you don't mind tanking a knife to your tank.... Some people upgrade the pump to a Maxi-Jet 900, replace the bio-balls with LR rubble, remove the carbon filter...

    My tank stinks!!!

Water changes will help. I have never cured rock myself, but I wonder if running a bag of carbon would help with the smell?

The best weapon against hair algae is to first remove as much as possible by hand(being careful not to spread around loose hairs), and then keep nutrients in order by using good quality water and doing frequent PWCs. Nothing will send a tank into an algae spiral faster than neglecting PWCs or...
