I would wait until you get him adequate space before you add anything else. At our shop we have a marine tank with 2 snowflake eels and within a week one of them finagled their up into our overflow and jumped out the back! A top or cover is a must for eels... A secure top or cover is a must...

It would make a difference, the color spectrum is different in those bulbs. I'm assuming you have 2 T8 hoods, 18in bulbs? You could do some very low light plants! Java moss, java fern and Anubias are easy plants to maintain!

I randomly open it and read about a different fish everyday! It's a great book.
