    Is an undergravel filter necessary

    I know back in the old days when I did a freshwater tank I had an undergravel filter with the clear bubble tubes and a stone attached to a pump. Is that still the case today? I can tell you how to do a marine tank but now that my daughter wants a freshwater tank what would be the smartest...

    What do I need to start a freshwater?

    I was an avid reef tank owner until Hurricane Katrina wiped me out. Now my daughter wants gold fish and I have a 45 hex with all kinds of equipment. What do I need to start a freshwater tank and will any of my hardware I used for a marine tank work for a freshwater tank?
