Try finding garlic extreme and soaking food in it to help with the immune systems of the fish. The hippo I used to have would get ich all the time and I wanted to keep things natural, so since it just started I would soak my food and feed it. Then it would get better.
Just not too much it's opinion too much kills as too less. My water was good and I need up moving, adding water so much that I didn't need one. My betta has never been sick.
I'm not saying they shouldn't I'm saying water changes on any tank are your choice. Saltwater we do it maybe every two weeks if bad. But don't touch other wise say with fresh. However still choice.
Saltwater does not even need changes that much and they have a harder blance to keep. Bettas have gills and don't need to like that...... Choice. This hobby is opinion. The choice is ours about water changes.
Ok I have a Betta and perfect water but it still likes to breath like that. Over doing water changes makes water quality bad and stresses fish. Every time a fish sees a net or is caught they stress. All honesty I have a 4 gallon baby biorb and since the summer I got it I have done one water...
Also don't be worried about changes so much once a week would be good. The fish just might be a little stressed. The betta can breath air like humans if water gets to bad or they just feel like it.
