    excessive algea

    I know algea will grow quicker if the tank is exsposed to sunlight. That's about the only thing I would know to stay away from. :/

    I'm stumped... :(

    I was under the impression that the nitrites can become if the tank is over crowded as well? And also, when cleaning the gravel becareful, you want to remove access waste but if you get down to the bottom of the rocks there also a lot of good bacteria down there that you want in the tank. So...

    An easy way out that a friend of mine takes is most fish stores will carry RO water...so it's already 100% ready for fish. I think if you use that and let the filter cycle with no fish for a couple weeks (while testing the water of course to be sure) I think it would be ok to get going. Not...
