    babies on the way...

My clownfish pair have recently started laying eggs on a consistent basis. I've ordered the clownfish breading book however I'm having trouble locating green water in the Toronto area. I guess I'll also be looking at live brine shrimp once they get feeding as well. Does anyone in the Toronto...

    Clown fish eggs?

I've been working on a special project for work so I haven't really had time to look at the tank much the past 5 or 6 days but this morning while sipping some coffee I came across this. The male, and sometimes the female, fan it and stay close by so I'm wondering if they've laid eggs. How long...

    Cleaning the outflows

I have a 120 marineland tank with 2corner overflows and sump below. The return spouts, four of them, need a good cleaning. Is there a way to pop them off without damaging them? What's the best way to clean them? Thanks...Steve

So there! Now I've done it.

Do you have a clean up crew? Or I think I just read corals yes? Also here is the article on cyano... http://www.aquariumadvice.com/articles/articles/20/1/Cyanobacteria-AKA-Red-Slime-Algae-/Page1.html Steve

So there! Now I've done it.

I too was battling the dreaded red cyano. I seem to have gotten a hold on it and it's almost all gone. I stepped up the water changes and siphoned all I could with the pwc. The other thing I did was stop feeding store bought food except for a couple of times a week at the most as a treat. Rinse...

    HLLE research link

This just came across my email and I thought I would post it here as I know that the topic comes up now and again. I've battled it a few times with both my tangs, they have recovered and doing fine. Anyway, here is the link... Activated Carbon: HLLE Smoking Gun Found | Coral Magazine

    2 little fishies phosban reactor

I have the Two Little Fishies reactor and am quite happy with it. I have a MJ 600 and the first couple of weeks it was running fine. Once a week, as per instructions, I would open the valve to full for a couple of minutes to give it a stir. However I now am finding that the pump even with...

    temperature 84.4 degrees

I too think the fan idea is the way to go with ice bottles for those added scorcher days. I've read an article (think it was Coral Magazine) not too long ago that said temp fluctuations were the norm in the natural environment and a little, approximately 2-3 degrees, is duplicating that in the...

    dyeing chaeto

I use to have trouble with mine when I first put the chaeto in then I switched to a stronger 23watt bulb and 24 hour lighting in the sump and it seems to have corrected it. Not sure if that is the issue but why not try it for a week or so to see if it works. Steve

So there! Now I've done it.

Yeah, I had a tough time finding it as well. Even with all the LFS's around here I found it two towns away in my travels for work. As for the skimmer Reef Octopus is the way to go. You won't go wrong there. I originally had another brand but ended up getting the Reef Octopus on a...

So there! Now I've done it.

Hello...I leave it in the DT sump for at least a couple of weeks. And place it in the QT just before adding the fish to the QT. I then would start another small bag in the sump and by the time that fish was done QT'ing the next bag was ready. If you are ready to go for your first fish you...

    Losing a tip...

I have a BTA and a hammer coral and a couple of weeks ago I found one of the tips of the hammer on the substrate. I've also noticed that it always stretches one tip out almost like it's fishing. Yesterday morning I found a small tip of the BTA on the substrate. When I had the goniopora I...

    Stressing

If you are going with lr I would dump the bio balls. They can be nitrate factories. The way I proceeded was rinsed sand, water, lr and then a fishless cycle of the tank for about 4 weeks (yours maybe faster or slower). I ran the skimmer during the cycle but kept the lights off. The choice...
