    suicidal snail :(

With more guys like those, who needs a protein skimmer?! Don't look a gifthorse in the mouth... the more niches any tankmate fills, the better.

    eclipse catfish?

You are right... there are a few. Today on thi forum I ran into a thread started by a knowledgable petco worker concerned about sump tanks to wanting to apply outofbox concepts... I was impressed

    suicidal snail :(

Not sure bout kuhli, they anatomy doesn't strke me as the type... but we have to remember our tanks aren't as deep as the wild where these fish come from... a "bottom dweller" could very well live in exclusively the bottom 3 feet of rivers and lakes... but as we know most of our tanks aren't 3...

So, I work at petco and..

Tap water in SF is the best, ours comes from Hetch Hetchy... my only debunk is that they add chloramine now instead of chlorine... no more simply aging the water before us. I agree about needing to provide evidence of why this "cheap" operation/setup of yours is important for both quality of...

New tank 7gal setup & help needed!

Beautiful setup. Plenty of different types of grass in the aquarium trade to use... I love white clouds... I see you have neon tetras/white clouds... I had a cardinal tetra/cardinal minnow tank. Try the Vietnamese white clouds... "cardinal minnows" known as tanichthys micagemmae instead of...

    eclipse catfish?

When setting up (decoration) your tank, offset from the center a vertical piece of dritwood... this serves two purposes...one for natural aesthetics when a tank is not symetrical... another because this provides one larger area of open water (instead of two smallers ones divided by decor) for...

    eclipse catfish?

Most places use a rule-of-thumb of 1gal per 1inch of fish... which is pretty for overstocked displays which are constantly maintained and dead fish replaced. This can work or some smaller and non-tempermental fish but... My rule-of-thumb is any fish which gets 6" or more requires a 55gal if...

    eclipse catfish?

Yes you have good and bad employees... but petsmart is a pet store, not a fish store... so even the best employees t petsmart/petco won't be good for help... considering stores like those don't care for hiring fish specialist. In my experience... most workers at chains stores have 0 clue or idea...

    eclipse catfish?

Petsmart was right... what they didn't tell you was "...at this age/size, with no decoration no any other tankmates... this fish can live in your tank for a couple more weeks..."--"yes it can live in that tank" All LFS grossly overstock their display tanks... except for Aqua Forest in SF from...

    suicidal snail :(

He's not suicidal, he is exploring. Maybe he thinks his pond is too small and wants to climb rocks and embankments to the next pool... some fish like hillstream loach (hk butterfly "pl*co") do this. For fish they recommend a hood.
