    finally cycled, yay!!

Well it's taken 12 weeks of arduous pwc's, testing, love and worry, not to mention my 2 poor casualties (a sick platy early on and a guppy who smashed himself on a rock) but we're finally cycled, zero ammo and nitrites. Happy New Year to you all and your beasties! :D xxx

Cycling question - really need help!

Oh dear :'( I've seen a lovely 276 litre bow front tank and cabinet that I was planning anyway to get within the next 2 months - if I got this and moved my current stock into it, would that leave room for any more or would that still be capacity? Also if anyone can tell me specifically what...

    Allergic reaction

Thanks for the reassurance - on daily pwc's ATM so allergy would have been a nightmare! Poor you though, that must really suck - I only have to check things for nuts or tuna. Epipen everywhere you go? X

    Allergic reaction

Hi, does anyone know if tap water conditioner can cause hay fever like symptoms, swollen sore eyes and runny nose? I could just have a cold of course but I haven't been very careful with the stuff cos I assumed if it's ok for little delicate fishies then it's ok to get on me in such tiny doses...

Cycling question - really need help!

I suspected as much, as upsetting as it is, thanks for clarifying. Can you tell me for reference what size tank would house all my current stock comfortably? Thanx :)

    Urgent - heater blown

The house is warm enough with the heating on, and the tank is holding at 25C currently so it's got a degree or two to okay with, the room temp is 24 so a blanket should keep them going til 9am I guess! Thanks everyone :) still getting the hang of it all, its like having a newborn baby!

    Urgent - heater blown

Thanks- removed the heater and the melted suction holder before putting new water in so that's ok. Been advised to keep their rooms radiator on overnight and similar, to wrap them in a duvet so I'll do that and top them off overnight if it drops. Fingers crossed, it's blinking cold here :( Thank you

    Urgent - heater blown

I've been an idiot and forgot switch off the heater during a pwc, there was a big smell of burning, a bit of the plastic suction holder for the heater wand is melted and the heater now doesn't work. I don't have a spare and nowhere is open now for 13 hours. Please advise, I'll stay up all night...

Cycling question - really need help!

That's really helpful, that's the bit I couldn't get my head around! If I'm badly overstocked I'll return a few til I get the hang of it enough to get a bigger set up. I'll plod on with daily pwc's til it's sorted then, I know where I'm going now, thank you! So can anyone tell me if I have too...

Cycling question - really need help!

Thanks for this - tap water has ammonia level of 0.25. Using prime conditioner, I'm adding this per dose to each bucket of new water, is this right? Temp stable at 24C and new water is always at this before adding. Current stock is 2 mollies, 4 guppies, 6 neon tetras, 1 platy and 2 small clown...

Cycling question - really need help!

Hi, I'd really appreciate some insight into the following: 60L tank, marina slimline S15 filter, 3 weeks into fish-in cycle (would not have done this if had not had bad advice from petsmart and Nutrafin, which led me to believe it was good to go 5 days after set-up) However, a week ago a platy...

    Your Guide to Ammonia Toxicity

Just wanted to add... I'm a newbie and understood this perfectly, and it's been massively helpful to my understanding while doing a fish-in cycle following poor advice from the petshop and Nutrafin claims! I like the science bit... Thanks v much :)

White growth on platy - please help?

Thanks for this - would a large water change be 50%? Should I continue to add the Nutrafin Cycle weekly for maintenance? Do I need to treat the actual illness or whatever it is or let nature take its course with the correcting of the parameters? Appreciate the info, thanks- its all a lot more...

White growth on platy - please help?

1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the best of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.). A - Blue male platy, had tail nibbled 9 days ago, today noticed small white lump on tail end of body (see pic). Also not swimming with...
