I've added some java moss, and a tube for them now too.
The CO2 has been keeping the algae at bay, but the lights are so strong!
Here are some FTS:
And a closeup of the white shrimp - looking more creamy in this light:
An update for you all - decided to get the CO2 kit.
Installed for a few days, running it at about half the reccomendation and will start going up/down if needed. Things seem OK - the shrimp aren't acting any different and the plants are taking off. A little diatoms as expected.
Here's some...
Thanks!
Update:
Parameters:
Day 18: NH3 – 0, NO2 – 0.00, NO3 – 2.5
Seem all OK after a PWC.
pH: 6.6
Temp: 75F
Went into the LFS and they had a new batch of S Grade Crystal Red and Black Shrimp - so I got 5 of each. There was also an all white shrimp (crystal I assume), so I picked that up too...
Day 1 - Tank is all set up. Substrate, rock and vine is in:
Day 2 - Water has now cleared, was very brown and murky:
Day 6 - Plants arrived - drained out water, planted and refilled - clearing really quick:
Day 14 - Going well - wallichi and spikerush getting new shoots and all settling...
Hi all!
I haven’t been around in a while but I caught the bug again, decided to build a Planted Nano Shrimp Tank and share its journey here!
My inspiration was the addition of Cherry Shrimp to my planted community tank (might post separate photos of that). I don’t see them very often but when...
Another update:
It's been quite hectic at work and haven't been able to update as frequently as I would like.
After the plants had settled and started growing in, I looked to filtration. Again this is moving away from the Walstad method - I just dont want to risk it :)
Sponge Filter...
Hi all,
I have decided to create a Walstad inspired tank.
The plan is to have a male betta and some cherry shrimp.
I'm using cuttings off my new 20G planted tank and driftwood I've been curing for some time.
Substrate:
2/3" layer of premium potting mix
2/3" layer of 1-2mm black silica gravel...
Thanks :)
That one is dwarf blyxa.
And I think the rummy nose is becoming my fav fish.
They are so active and interested when I come up to the tank.
They are also my early warning system when a parameter is out check!
I'm currently doing a Journal thread and my tank's at the stage where I'm starting to get some decent shots.
I've attached some of my favourite pictures, but I've got an album dedicated to this tank: Pictures by Stiltso - Photobucket
Enjoy!
The tank cycle has stablised. No ammonia or nitrites for a week or so, nitrates slowly rising.
Tannins from the three pieces of driftwood are being released - with the white substrate it's looking slightly yellow.
I'm not too fussed with the colouration.
I removed the Wisteria as I didnt...
The first word that pops to mind is WOW
An incredibly tranquil tank.
Thanks for sharing.
Been meaning to turn my 4 Gal into a Walstad species tank.
I've decided to do a Walstad Iwagumi hybrid!
I have my hands on a copy of "Ecology of the Planted Aquarium" by Diana Walstad. It's a little outdated, but I believe the facts in this book are sighted and scientifically sound.
The Allelopathy section is an interesting read (I find chemistry and biology fascinating!)
Alage growth was...
Thanks :) It's my first shot at a planted tank.
The cartridges I buy off the net, or from my LFS when they have them (they sell quick here). The Fluval Cartridges have a propietary screw thread - IE the thread on the fluval setup is different and only works with fluval products.
There's a few...
