According to the color chart comparison, ammonia and nitrite were always zero when I did the tests. The rocks are cured, but I don't think the sand is.
I agree that I should wait at least a week before adding anything, since there is a possibility that the testing package for ammonia i bought...
I began a 100g to-be reef tank about a week ago. Added DSB, live rocks, and a JBL mikroorganism small bag three days ago. Sliced raw shrimps was added two days ago.
Since then I did testings every day. Ammonia testing (JBL) always result in a negligible value, and so does nitrite (tetra)...
From what I read, a DSB(it is said to do best in 4") is a "black-small sized MUD" bed. But from what I see in PrettyFishies' tank, the DSB is all ocean-white sand.
Did I learn wrong?? 8O

OK so if I would like to start with a FOwLR then add some corals, I wouldn't change the main set up, right? just more intense light, and better quality water requirement..

What is really the difference between a reef tank and FOwLR tank?? Don't they both need a sump, skimmer, and enough water circulation?
And aren't they both better if LS, LR, and DSB are used...
