I have the same model and have had no problems with the temp setting being different than a thermometer reading. I have always been skeptical of the sticker ones, and currently have a glass one in my 55. It could just be a lemon, and not the fact that it is too small.

Would you recommend any specific sterilizer? I think it would be a solid investment. Only one requirement is that it would be sufficient for a 55gal too.
