Get a holding tank. Keep filled with tap and prime. Use a high end rio water pump and hose to fill tanks. You can make a PVC attachment to the hose that will hang on the tank and incorporate a valve. That way you can just take the hose from tank to tank, without killing your fish.

That is PLENTY of fish.
A 75g is not very large. Though it is a beautiful tank!
Can u get some source gravel from an established tank? Put it in a filter sock in your fluval and that will jump start things.
It is pretty normal to see a small amount of nitrates when using Tap water as a source. It honestly sounds like the tank isn't fully cycled. If she said herself that the process hasn't started, then adding more fish is a bad idea. Over loading a tank before a cycle will just be disastrous for...
What does your source water test? Ammonia and nitrates can be already present in two water too.
It is possible your tank has cycled. Keep testing if daily to see what that ammonia level reads.
Ok good. If the ph is lower than 7.0 your ammonia should b much less toxic. You should test your source water and then the tank water to see how different, if at all, the chemistry is.
Ammonia will create nitrites. Ammonia converts to nitrites. Then nitrites to nitrate.
What is your waters ph?
Feed less. Or every other day. That's all you can do to limit the spike. Once it hits just keep water changing to lower the levels so your fish are ok.
I would wait and test your ammonia before adding anything new. If your tank is still cycling, eventually you will have a nitrite spike. That would b disastrous for your fish.
If you have some nitrates already, and your ammo levels are low just wait it out 5 more days and get a water test to b...
Ya the ones I had back a few years ago were amazing. I bought 2 new at petsmart and they both couldn't hold a siphon and kept unseating the impeller.
I was sad when I returned them lol.
Marineland never emailed me back either.
Is your test kit still fresh? Also keep in mind that prime and other water conditioners can mess with the water test also.
Just keep doing your wcs and you should b ok. Just be vigilant on monitoring your toxin levels :-)
I never knew fish could get exhausted from swimming! :fish2:
Seriously though, I have over 3 years experience working with fresh, salt, brackish and reef tanks. And a few years working with pool water chemistry too.
I worked at a store running A LOT of fishtanks...

Hob filters have a ton of bypass. Canisters are great for making sure no water bypasses media. I'd suggest a fluval with a. Skimmer addon for oxygen and surface skimming.
Plus u can more easily customize the media and isolate the bio media. Which is important when cleaning.
