Help with lighting for a 10gal

My Lfs has gone to a new supplier and is getting lots of new stuff . Including the same 4 point PU fluoro tubes the hydro hood uses. They have Aqua One tubes in 24 and 36w - tropical. No idea of the kelvin and I forgot to check the PAR. The hood sits on top of the tank but I can raise it. I'd...

Of course! I'd forgotten about incandescent bulbs disappearing from our shops.

Snail food recipes and advice for adding calcium

Thank you for starting this thread, Library Girl. I had a severely depressed, listless apple snail. Thanks to this thread, he's happy and active. And so is his mate Pleco who shares the cuttlefish :)

    T2 lights?

Sorry! I meant T2s, not T8s! Time I stopped researching lights and turned them off for the night lol!

    T2 lights?

Hi Retired AF. I haven't used T2s, but I've been reading about them tonight: http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Lighting.html I also discovered they come in mini CFLs. I have fresh water planted tanks, so I was excited to find 15w 6700k T8s on an Australian site called Ozlighting...

    DIY CO2 Systems

Thanks for posting this thread, Mox. My DIY CO2 is a one 2L bottle job and my brew recipe was much weaker than the one given here. It's working- I can see a green difference in the plants already and I've only had it going for a couple of days- but I like the two bottle version described here...

Help with lighting for a 10gal

Well, Aqua chem, prepare to be shocked and amazed! I spent my time at work tonight looking for CFL hoods on the Aussie net instead of working. Found quite a few seriously overkill hydro lights on quite a few serious stoner sites, but no aquarium CFL hoods. I even tried to find incandescent bulb...

Help with lighting for a 10gal

+1 Mumma. I was so pleased I finally understood what you were telling me about CFLs I forgot to ask what plants you are growing in the photo? They look like they are about to jump out of there and go for a walk, they're so lush!

Help with lighting for a 10gal

Thanks Mumma. I'm guessing I'm after 2 x 15w CFLs, each between 5000- 6700k. I had a look at Petbarn.com.au No mail order and my nearest store is 5 hours drive away- one way. :(

Help with lighting for a 10gal

Hey Mumma! Now I'm getting the picture! I kept imagining an aquarium hood type thing! Ok. I have this twin CFL floor lamp: and this CFL clip on desk lamp. This one's a powerful little bugger- 20w 5000k. It's trying to grow Rotala Macrandra in a bowl (never let it be said I lack ambition). I...

Help with lighting for a 10gal

Hey Aqua-chem! I hadn't thought of CFL's - mainly because I've never seen a hood that uses them. I've only seen ones that take long fluoro tubes. I'm in Australia, so most of the good online aquarium lighting stores are unavailable to me- even Amazon. Would an ordinary lighting store have them?

Help with lighting for a 10gal

Thanks Corsair. Does my T8 idea sound right to you? Every man and his dog seems to advocate T5s - but I can't see much difference between T8s and T5 NOs- and after the hydro light, I'm afraid of T5 HOs! :-0

Help with lighting for a 10gal

Right now I'm cycling the tank with an 18w 24" T8. It's sitting on top of the tank - 12" from the light to the substrate. I was given a hydroponics fixture- 2x twin batton fluoros each at 55w. WAY too much light! I was wondering if I could use it if I added some Amazon Frog Bit to shade the...
