    Putting rock/equpiment into storage

I'm moving in a month or so and don't really want to go through the hassle of moving a "stocked" tank so I've decided to pack everything up and put it into storage. I'm going to be selling the live stock (1 clown and 1 dotty-back) back to the LFS. Anyone have any suggestions for...

Any clues on what these are?

Don't be surprised if your peppermint shrimp molt within the first couple of days... I picked one up a few weeks ago to help with my c.u.c. and within the first two to three days he molted.

    water top off

I usually only end up adding a gallon or so at most... The reason I started doing the partial tank / partial RODI is from the "interesting" swirling that's created when the straight RODI is added to the tank... it was just a minor concern... wasn't sure if it was something I should worry about.

    water top off

This is something that I've been wondering for a while and wanted to ask about... for topping off a tank that's lost water due to evaporation... is it safe to be putting non-salt water straight into the tank? I've started to take a gallon pitcher and filling it up half-way with tank water...

placing dry rock directly into established tank?

Despite the fact that I don't have any live stock... well except for a hitch hiker hermit crab, some pods, bristle worms, and two snails... I might have to grab the 20 gallon tank from my basement to soak the rock since it looks like you're getting at least some ammonia. I only bought 25 lbs...

Help with setting up a peacock mantis shrimp tank

By supplying a "burrow" and tunnel / escape hatch, you could aquascape around the PVC... otherwise you could run the risk of a rock slide I'd imagine... assuming of course the shrimp uses the PVC.

placing dry rock directly into established tank?

I'm not really sure you want to be using volcanic rock... I've heard that you'll have heavy metals leach from the rock into your tank which can really screw things up... I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in to correct me if need be.

placing dry rock directly into established tank?

Jereli... Did the rock arrive wet/moist? Or was it completely dry?... without any wet newspaper on it? I ask because right now I'm in the middle of some house remodeling and the tank is temporarily in my dining room. I'm thinking that if the rock arrived completely dry that I should be able...

placing dry rock directly into established tank?

Thanks for let us / me know about the quality of the rock. My 25 lb order should be here this week some time. Since I don't have any live stock I'm debating if I want to spend the time to put it into a separate container first or not. Even if I do put it right into my tank I doubt I'd have...

placing dry rock directly into established tank?

I just order a 25 lb box of pre-cured from them... I was wondering the same thing (soak for a few days/week or add directly)... I'll be adding the 25 lbs to a 55 gallon that has about 35 lbs of live rock in it already... no live stock yet... just live rock and hitch hikers... let us know the...

    heater question.....

Wouldn't you want the thermostat in the DT so as to make sure the main tank is at the appropriate temperature?

    Lighting for 55 long

Thanks for the quick reply! Obviously when/if I head towards corals I'll be upgrading the system (sump, lighting, protein skimmer, etc). The main reason I asked is because the cross member on my tank had cracked and the way I have it secured looks like crap... the current hood/lighting covers...

    Lighting for 55 long

I'm in the process of getting my 55 long set up... I've gone through a full cycle... and probably would already have fish if I wasn't in the process of tearing my living room down to studs to insulate and sheet rock (moved the tank into the dining room for the time being)... but i have a...
