Just thought I would post a quick update. We decided to start with fresh water. Like many of you have told me, with us having problems w the water now, it would be a lot more expensive to lose an entire salt water tank opposed to fresh. So as of now, we went and got the 30 gallons of filtered...
Latest update. Went to LFS this evening and got the 30 gallons of filtered water. We are really lucky bc the LFS is a very small, family owned shop and they have been more than helpful. Since they previously told us to just replace 20 gallons with filtered water and it didn't work they didn't...
Here's where we stand w the tank. Did the PH test several times yesterday and still go results ranging from 7.4 - 8.8. So I called and spoke with the lady at the LFS and she said what she thought was happening is the 10 gallons of water that we did not change out had buffered the 20 gallons of...
The tank is a 30 gal now front. Took PH samples again several times today and got a variety o results. 7.2 all the way up to 8.8. I called and spoke with the owner of the store I have been working with told me since the range is so high my best bet would be to dump it and use only the water she...
Omg I feel like such an idiot!!! Just looked up fish/ fish less cycles. Oh goodness I have a looooooong way to go before I know what the heck I'm doing.
We just did a 20 gallon change w water that had correct levels yesterday. We got it from the aquarium place. Do u still suggest prime & complete change?
All 3 nitrates and both ammonia a were zero. And no there is no direct sunlight to the tank. The owner of the aquarium shop said that anything over 7.4 ( PH) is too high and the fish had a high chance of not making it. The more I have researched though, I am starting to think tht is not true...
I also have some API stress+ coat. It says makes tap ware safe. Is that what your talkig about? I have not added that. Should I? Oh these poor fish ( IF I EVER GET ANY GRRRRR) lol
I am using the kit that you get water in a vile then put drops in. And no I have not tested for anything else bc I though my PH had to b correct before any of that mattered. And I have NO CLUE what nitrates are for. My kit has drops to test for it. Should I do it? And 100% want fish in it:)
I just tested the tank and my tap water and they were exactly the same, 7.4. But an hour from now it could be 8.6? Also, like I said before I got water samples from 4 different areas of the tank and they all came back different.
