I have the same in my tank. My light is on about eight hours too. I guess it depends if you like to see this or not. I might take rocks out and scrub them if I get annoyed with it.

I've jot about 100 pounds of sand to wash before putting it in my new tank. Does anyone have any hints or tips?

Is it wood or laminate? Will probably be fine if wood. Sit on it and get a co worker to sit on it too. If it doesn't bend it should be fine. I just got a second hand wooden coffee table for my 55g. It's pine and does the job.

Yes, I will be moving the existing fish over to new tank. Then dual run both filters for a few weeks, then take out old old filter once the water stabilises. Main worry is possible over filtration of old tank.
