Best fish for 5 gallon aquarium?

I have a 5.5 gallon aquarium in my cubicle at work. Right now it's inhabited by a Betta and an Emerald Green Cory. They get along nicely, and the Cory likes to nibble at algae growing on my aquarium wall.

Would a live plant help to reduce algae?

    Algae question

Could diatoms still be around in a mature tank if I constantly scrub it off the walls? Usually I just scrub it but, like some of you had said, it just removes it from the wall and stays in the water.

    Algae question

Hi all, Been away for a few days but I'm back now. To answer Purrbox's question, this is not a new tank. The tank in my cubicle here has been running for several months, and my 10 gallon tank at home (in which I also have trouble with the brownish algae) has been running for about a year and a...

    Algae question

I have those "No More Algae" tablets that I try to use, too. After I scrub the algae off the glass, I drop in one of the tablets - are these useless? It seems to have no effect. Also, those are fake plants, so I don't dose them with fertilizer :)

    Algae question

Hi all, I've got a small 5.5 gallon tank in my cubicle at work, with a crowntail betta and a emerald green cory. (I used to have two cories, but one succumbed to fin rot :( ). Anyway - I have a real problem with algae growth. I scrape it all clean, and within a few days it's back. It's the...

Instantly cycling a new tank....is it possible?

Another vote for Bio-Spira. When I set up my aquarium last year, I used Bio-Spira (you can find posts I wrote asking about it in the archives here) - it worked like a charm. A day or two and my fish were ready to go! As the earlier posters have said, though, only use Bio-Spira if you get it...

"No More Algae" Tank Buddies - safe with live fish

Hey all, I have a small 5.5 gallon in my cubicle here at work, which is inhabited by a crowntail betta and two emerald green cories. Lately though I've gotten a huge growth of (I think) brown algae on the glass and stuff. I saw these "No More Algae" Tank Buddies at the pet store - they are...

    Shrimp species?

Hi all, I was at my LFS the other day and saw a tank of funny shrimp. It somewhat resembled a glass or ghost shrimp, but the handwritten label didn't say that. I don't remember exactly, but it was something like a Jacobson shrimp or Jacobian shrimp or something? Does this ring a bell to...

    Cory cat group question

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sounds like my guys will be ok. (I have 2 emerald greens and one albino currently).

    Cory cat group question

Hi all, I had a question about cory catfish. I know that since they are social fish they do well in a small group, like say 4 emerald green corys. My question is, would a mixed group do well together too? Like 2 emerald greens and one albino, etc.? Or do they have to be with corys of the same...

Good population for a 10 gallon tank?

I'm planning on keeping it at a 10 gallon. Does a single snail really add that much of a load that it would be bad?

Good population for a 10 gallon tank?

Usually once a week. Sometimes I get lazy and let it go for longer, but I'm getting better at it. What would be better, a snail or a shrimp?

Good population for a 10 gallon tank?

Hi all! I'm still stuck with a small 10 gallon (my apartment is too small for anything much bigger) and had a question about what to put in this tank, without overcrowding it. Right now, I have 4 mollies and 3 emerald green cories. My questions are: (1) Am I already overpopulated? (2) If not...
