I agree, that's why I said nearly impossible. I'm setting up 4 new tanks and I'm going to try and keep it pest snail free. It'll be difficult because there are interlopers in the substrate I'm reusing. But it should be a challenge.

The solitary one is a black bar. I forgot I had the other examples. The only problem with them is there are at least 2 guppy/endler hybrids. Endlers usually have top or bottom swords. Roundtails and speartails are a guppy trait.

I did say broad general descriptions with exceptions. Overall choice is a personal preference. As you said, there is no symbiosis. My community tank is completely different than when I originally set it up.

Or make your community fit your favorite fish. You will have many favorites so don't sweat it.

I haven't read all the responses so sorry if I bring up something someone else did. I would start with your clean up crew. You really need them in place before you add other fish. Your cleaning crew can consist of catfish, plecos, snails, shrimp, and loaches. Each does something different...

They do school. But it's not very tight. There is a lot of mating behaviors going on, even with just males in a tank.
